Synopsis
A young lady is chased down an alley by Raul. He catches her and she begs him not to hurt her, promising to come back. He grabs her, and she stabs him in the eye with one of her high heels. Raul then reveals his black eyes and breaks her neck.
Sam & Dean are eating in a restaurant and Sam is looking through the paper for a case. Dean says there isn't a case, that they stopped to get a good steak. When Dean's phone starts “blowing up,” Sam grabs it to see what is going on. He discovers that Dean has a dating app, and that they came here so Dean could hook up with a woman. It turns out that the woman, Shaylene, is a sex worker, and she is willing to trade sex for Dean's soul.
Castiel & Hannah continue to track down angels and return them to Heaven. When Hannah suddenly takes off her clothes to take a shower, Castiel is confused, and Hannah wants to know if her nakedness bothers Cas. As they are checking out of the hotel, Hannah is confronted by her vessel's (Caroline Johnson) husband, Joe Johnson. He wants to know why she left, so Hannah explains that she is having an affair with Castiel. When Joe doesn't believe her, she kisses Castiel, and then the two of them leave.
Dean wants to help Shaylene, so Sam & Dean set a trap for her pimp, who is a demon. After catching him in a devil's trap, they question the demon to find out how many girls are involved. Before he can answer, Shaylene kills the demon in a fit of anger so the boys have to track down clues elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Rowena arrives at the brothel where the sex-for-souls trade is headquartered. She kills Raul using an ancient hex, and then invites the working girls, Elle & Catlin, to come along with her. Rowena wines & dines the two sex workers in an attempt to get them to join her coven. She explains how the Grand Coven threw her out because her magic was too extreme, so she was banned from taking students and forming her own coven. However, she wants to be their mentor. They agree and, as they leave the restaurant, a waiter Rowena had hexed suddenly dies violently.
Crowley finds out about the sex-for-souls trade from Gerald, who had escaped Rowena's attack. Crowley is not pleased, proclaims the sex trade is tacky and wants it cleaned up. Sam and Dean find the brothel, and discover the gruesome body of Raul. When Sam finds a hex bag, they conclude that Raul was killed by a witch. The boys research the hex used to kill Raul, and discover that a witch by the name of Rowena created it, and she was the only one that ever used it. Sam and Dean then investigate the dead waiter, who died in a similar manner as Raul. After talking with other hunters, who are aware of other such grisly murders in fancy hotels, Sam and Dean decide to check out all the 5-star hotels in the area.
Cole Trenton has captured a demon, and proceeds to torture it for any information on Dean. Hannah feels bad about lying to Joe because she didn't want to hurt him. Castiel reassures her that she did the right thing because Joe had to move on. Castiel explains what happened to Jimmy Novak, concluding that the mission always comes first. However, Hannah decides that the right thing to do is to return to Heaven and let her vessel go back to her husband. This leads Castiel to look up Jimmy Novak online.
As Rowena begins training her new coven, demons arrive to nab her, however Sam and Dean interrupt the capture and kill the demons. When they confront Rowena, she uses an "attack dog spell" on Elle as a diversion. Sam fights Elle while Dean chases after Rowena. Dean catches her in an alley, but then Cole catches Dean, in a standoff of guns. Cole tells Dean to drop his weapon and, when he does, Rowena runs away. Dean apologizes to Cole for the last time they met. Cole says he researched demons, but he is shocked when the holy water he throws in Dean's face doesn't burn him. Dean says he isn't a demon anymore, but Cole thinks Dean is still a monster. They fight, and a very human Dean is still able to overpower Cole. The fight ends when Dean grabs his gun and points it at Cole. Cole wants Dean to kill him, but Dean refuses. Dean requests five minutes to explain to Cole, and hands his gun to him and says if Cole doesn't like what he hears, he can kill Dean. Dean explains that he hunts monsters and that Cole's father was a monster. Dean tracked Ed Trenton back to his house and Dean killed Ed so he wouldn't kill Cole or his mother.
Back in the hotel, Sam manages to throw Elle in the closet where she eventually dies from the spell. He then arrives in the alley and comes up behind Cole, who is still pointing the gun at Dean. Dean asks Sam to put down his weapon, and Sam trusts Dean so he lowers his gun. Dean empathizes with Cole's situation, saying he understands how circumstances can blind someone and make them do things they normally wouldn't. He explains that the people who love Dean pulled him back from that dark edge, though Dean thinks that he is past saving and that he will die by a gun or a blade. Sam then reminds Cole about his family, and Cole hands the gun back to Dean. After Cole leaves, Sam wants to know if Dean really believes he is past saving. Dean says he just told the guy what he needed to hear and turns to walk away with Sam following.
Gerald returns to Crowley telling him that the Winchesters killed their "Alpha" team, but he had a "Beta" team waiting in the wings and were able to capture the witch. When Crowley goes to meet her, Rowena taunts him and, in shock, Crowley responds, “Mother?”

Quotes
Crowley: So you and your half-wit pal threw me into the sex trade? I'm evil, that's just tacky.
Castiel: You did the right thing. You hurt him, but you gave him a reason, something he can use to move forward make sense of his loss. I had to take my vessel from his family -- twice, actually. Jimmy Novak; he's a good man, he was married, had a daughter... Claire.
Hannah: And?
Castiel: Where is all this coming from?
Cole: Were you a demon when you murdered my father?
Dean: No.
Cole: You say that now, but the last time we fought you couldn't even remember his name.
Dean: 2003 Nyack, New York, Ed Trenton. I was working a case three dead, livers ripped out and eaten by your father.
Cole: Livers.
Dean: I tracked him down that night, to your house.
Cole: When you say he was a monster, what kind of monster was he?
Dean: I get it, that was your story. Look, man, I got one of those, too, okay, but those stories that we tell that keep us going. Man, sometimes they blind us. They take us to dark places -- the kind of place where I might beat the crap out of a good man, just for the fun of it. The people who love me, they pulled me back from that edge. Cole once you touch that darkness... it never goes away. Now the truth is... I'm past saving. I know how my story ends, it's at the edge of a blade or the barrel of a gun. So the question is, is that gonna to be today? It gonna be that gun?
Dean: I was just telling the guy what he needed to hear. We better go.
Crowley: Mother?
