| Outline | As Jack begins acclimating himself to his surroundings, Sam and Dean receive a surprise visit from Donatello Redfield regarding the boy and his power. Asmodeus, the last Prince of Hell, comes out of hiding and sets his sights on Jack. Meanwhile, Mary and Lucifer begin to encounter the inhabitants of the alternate universe. |

Synopsis
With no Crowley or Lucifer to rule over Hell, the demons in Crowley’s throne room are bored, worried, or drunk when Asmodeus, the fourth Prince of Hell makes his grand entrance. Sitting himself on the throne, he explains that he intends to rule until Lucifer and Jack return, then smites all but three of the demons that are present.
Meanwhile, Sam and Dean are traveling in the Impala and once again arguing over Jack who is asleep in the back seat. The main theme of their ongoing discourse is that Sam views Jack as an innocent kid but Dean only sees a monster that needs destroying. Sam explains that Jack may be the answer to saving Mary from the alternative universe, but Dean rejects the possibility she is still alive.
In Apocalypse World, Lucifer nags at Mary to move faster and explains that in a perfect world he would kill her "and her plodding sons," but he intends to keep her alive so that he can exchange her for Jack when they escape. Mary voices her doubts that Lucifer can care about raising a child, but Lucifer retorts that she can’t possibly know what he cares about. Before Mary can reply, a fireball lands where they are standing, allowing Mary to make an escape.
Back at Needham Asylum, Drexel, one of the three demons Asmodeus spared, returns to inform him that there is no sign of Lucifer or his son. Asmodeus explains that he wants Jack to rule Hell, with him as Jack's "humble adviser." When Drexel mentions to Asmodeus the risk of upsetting Lucifer if he doesn't continue his search, Asmodeus informs him that the scars on his face were a result of the torture inflicted on him by Lucifer for attempting to release the shedim, creatures so savage even Lucifer feared them. Through the torture his connection to Lucifer was made stronger, making him Lucifer's to command, much like Drexel is his to command.
Since Dean had started hallucinating sheep on the road, the three finally crash at hotel to get some rest. Jack excitably begins to watch Scooby Doo but is relegated to the sofa by Dean and given the Bible to read instead. Although Sam gently offers to take the sofa, Jack refuses. Later, Jack and Dean are eating on the sofa while Sam finishes painting sigils on the motel door, and sits opposite them, observing as Jack amusingly imitates Dean’s behavior from how he drinks his beer to how he sits. Jack questions them about things he learned in the Bible and comes to the conclusion that God is his grandfather. Dean finally snaps at Jack for copying him, so Sam changes the subject to ask Jack about what other powers he may have, such as the ability to teleport to outside the room. Jack misunderstands and walks placidly out the door, closing it behind him and knocks on the door. Sam reasons that Jack is more human than they think but this is undermined by the arrival of the prophet Donatello, who tells them he followed an intense power signal to their location. Dean takes this as proof that Jack is not human, but Sam is buoyed by Donatello saying there is no darkness surrounding Jack. Both conclude that if Donatello could find Jack then others will be able to, so they take him to have protective symbols tattooed; unfortunately these disappear as soon as they are completed. As they are leaving in Baby, a demon spots them.
Back in the motel room, Sam, Dean, and Donatello quarrel over Jack’s actions, causing him to get upset and accidentally teleport himself outside to escape the conflict. Sam finds him and comforts him by explaining Dean’s aggressive behavior as simply the way his fear manifests itself. Sam reassures him that he has faith in Jack just like Kelly and Castiel did. Dean meanwhile is sitting in a bar confiding to the barmaid. When he leaves, she reveals herself to be Asmodeus in disguise. The next morning, Sam is alone in the room when Donatello arrives to talk about Jack. Donatello asks Sam if he has any idea how strong Jack will be and Sam confides in him that the lore suggests that a Nephilim will become more powerful than the angel that sired them.
Having made her escape, Mary is walking through the wasteland of Apocalypse World when she meets a male hunter who, after confirming she is human, attempts to assault her but is killed by Lucifer before he can get very far. Angry at her for saying she doesn’t want him to win, Lucifer briefly causes her internal pain as both punishment and proof that she has no choice in the matter.
When Dean comes back to their room, Sam tries to explain why he should give Jack a chance but is interrupted by Donatello entering to discuss Jack, causing them to realize that the previous Donatello was a fake. Upon further investigation, they discover that Jack is missing and are ambushed by demons. Meanwhile, fake Donatello has taken Jack to a field in Jasper, Wisconsin, and is attempting to use Jack’s powers to open a hell gate to release the shedim by telling him that they are a force for good that need to be saved.
Back in the alternative universe, a group of angels appears and attempts to smite Lucifer, who laughs at the situation before disintegrating them with a snap of his fingers. However, within seconds another angel arrives and reveals that he is the archangel Michael.
Sam, Dean, and the real Donatello read John's Journal on the way to find Jack and realize where he has been taken. They reach him in time to see the shedim beginning to emerge and shout to get his attention. Dean shoots the fake Donatello, causing him to morph back into Asmodeus who uses his demonic powers to choke Sam, Dean, and Donatello. Despite trying to persuade Jack to join him, the fact he is hurting Jack’s "friends" brings out his anger forcing Asmodeus to flee.
Meanwhile, Lucifer and Michael briefly fight, but even though Michael killed his universe’s Lucifer, he reveals he may have use for Lucifer and therefore he will spare him.
Finally home, Sam and Dean sit in the Bunker kitchen discussing Asmodeus and the fact Jack saved them. Dean leaves but on the way to his room hears a strange noise which he discovers is Jack repeatedly stabbing himself with a large knife. Dean’s mask of indifference slips slightly and he snatches the knife from Jack whilst chastising him for being an idiot. Dean explains that Sam believes Jack can be saved whereas Dean does not and that when the time comes, it will be Dean who kills Jack.

Jack: Exactly. What the hell am I? I can't control... whatever this is. I will hurt someone.
Dean: You know, my brother thinks you can be saved.
Jack: You don't believe that.
Dean: No, I don't.

- Sudden infant death syndrome also known as SIDS and crib death, is the sudden unexplained death of an infant, typically between the hours of 00:00 and 09:00 while the infant is sleeping.
- In Jewish folklore, the shedim are considered demons or evil spirits. They are believed to be the descendants of serpent-like demons, or alternately the spawn of the demon Azazel and Naamah. In one legend they are thought to have been the first humans, whom God did not complete due to needing to rest on the Sabbath. In Jewish and Islamic lore, the shedim are said to be the followers of Asmodeus, who is their king.

Sam: Well, he's not really an easy guy to know. He's, um, he's kind of rough around the edges.

- Lucifer appears most famously in Isaiah 14:12, where a translation using the Latin Vulgate, took the phrase "morning star" and subbed it with "lucifer."

- It is believed by modern scholars that the the "morning star" was not referencing a fallen angel, rather an unnamed king of Babylon.
Donatello: Ah, pretty much. No soul of course, thanks to Amara. It's kinda like losing your appendix. You never really noticed it when you had it. But now, when I come to a moral crossroad, I ask myself, 'What would Mr. Rogers do?' And as soon as I nail that, I'm usually good.
- "Mr. Rogers" refers to Fred Rogers the kindly host of the children's show Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

- "The nature versus nurture conundrum" refers to the question of whether aspects of a person's character are primarily shaped by their genetics (nature) or the environment of their upbringing (nurture).
- Simba is a character from the Disney film The Lion King (which was inspired by William Shakespeare's Hamlet). Simba is the son of the King of the Lions, and destined to become King himself.
- "Land of Bizarro" refers to a term originated in Superman comics but which has since become widely used for an alternate universe that is similar to our world but different in some significant way.
Dean: Mm-hmm. And hopefully this fourth Prince of Hell is the last Kardashian in the family.
