Synopsis

Bobby is still wheelchair-bound and in the hospital - he hasn't spoken in days. Castiel calls Sam's cell phone to find out where the boys are - the Enochian sigils he etched into their ribs hides them from all angels, including Castiel. He is angry that after he rebelled to help them Sam and Dean failed to stop the Apocalypse, that he has killed his brethren, and that he is cut off from Heaven. He tells Bobby this means he can't heal him. He then says in order to defeat Lucifer, he plans to find God. He says he needs Dean's amulet which he says will burn hot in God's presence.

Rufus heads to a town he thinks is under attack from demons, based on omens of a polluted river and a falling star. He calls Ellen and Jo and Bobby for help. When Sam and Dean arrive, he and Jo have been separated from Ellen - who has gathered with her some of the surviving townsfolk. Dean and Sam go for supplies, and while Sam is getting salt from a store, two teenagers with black eyes enter. Sam kills them with the demon-killing knife, but appears drawn to the blood.

When Sam and Ellen go to find Jo and Rufus, they are attacked. Ellen escapes, but Sam is captured by Jo and Rufus - who seem to think Sam is possessed. While he is held captive, one of the townspeople reveals that he is War - one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse and has tricked the people into thinking everyone is possessed, leading them to attack each other.

Returning, Ellen tells Dean that Jo thought she was possessed because she called her a "black-eyed bitch," and Dean starts to suspect all is not what it seems. Checking the Bible, he works out that these signs and the conflict herald the arrival of War. Shortly after, War, in the guise of a townsman, arrives and insists that they all need to attack the demons. As Dean and Ellen try to calm the panic, War turns the ring on his finger and the townspeople start seeing them as demons and attack. Dean and Ellen flee.

The townspeople form a force. They equip themselves with real bullets because they believe Dean had been a demon all along and lied about the effectiveness of salt. Dean and Ellen reach Jo and Rufus shortly before the townspeople arrive and manage to convince the two there are no demons and it's all the work of War. Dean frees Sam and they rush to catch up with War and cut off the ring that was helping him deceive the townspeople.

After the battle is over, Sam tells Dean that he can't trust himself, and that he needs to take a break from hunting - and Dean. Dean agrees - he can't focus on the job because he is worrying about Sam. He offers Sam the Impala but Sam declines, and hitches a ride out of town.

Quotes

Castiel: I'm cut off from Heaven and much of Heaven's power. Certain things, I can do. Certain things, I can't.

Bobby: You're telling me you lost your mojo just in time to get me stuck in this trap the rest of my life?!
Castiel: I'm sorry.
Bobby: Shove it up your ass.
Dean: Well, least he's talkin' now.

Bobby: I heard that.
Dean: Listen, Chuckles, even if there is a God, he is either dead—and that's the generous theory—

Castiel: He is out there, Dean.

Dean: Or he's up and kicking and doesn't give a rat's ass about any of us. I mean, look around you, man. The world is in the toilet. We are literally at the end of days here, and he's off somewhere drinking booze out of a coconut. All right?
Ellen: Real glad to see you boys. The can of whoop ass I ought to open on you.

[Ellen hits Dean]
Dean: Ow!

Ellen: You can't pick up a phone? What are you, allergic to giving me peace of mind? I got to find out that you're alive from Rufus?
Ellen: What kind of demons are these? Holy water and salt roll right off. My daughter may be an idiot, but she's not stupid. She wears an anti-possession charm. It's all kind of weird, right?
Dean: The whole thing's off.
Dean: 'And there fell a great star from Heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell upon the river, and the name of the star was Wormwood. And many men died.'

Pastor: Revelation eight ten. Are you saying that this is about the Apocalypse?
Dean: You could say. And these specific omens, they're prelude to what?
Pastor: The Four Horsemen.
Dean: And which one rides the red horse?

Pastor: War.
Dean: You said Jo called you a black-eyed bitch. They think we're demons, we think they're demons. What if there are no demons at all and we're all just killing each other?

Pastor: Wait, just back up. It's the Apocalypse?

Dean: Sorry, Padré.
Sam: So who are you?

War: Here's a hint. I was in Germany. Then in Germany. Then in the Middle East. I was in Darfur when my beeper went off. I'm waiting to hook up with my siblings. I've got three. We're going to have so much fun together.
Sam: I know who you are. There aren't any demons in town, are there?

War: Nope. Just frightened people ripping each other's throats out. I really haven't had to do too much. Take out a bridge here, lay in a little hallucination there, sit back, pop some corn, watch the show. Frankly, you're really vicious little animals, Sam.
War: You think I'm a monster. I'm jello shots at a party. I just remove inhibitions.
War: Save your protests for your brother. I can see inside your head. And man, it is one-track city in there. Blood, blood, blood. Lust for power. Same as always. You want to be strong again. But not just strong. Stronger than everybody. Good intentions—quick slide to hell, buddy boy. You feel bad now? Wait till you're thigh deep in warm corpses. Because, my friend, I'm just getting started.
Jo: Pipe bombs won't kill a demon.
Rufus: Right. But in my experience, demons come at you slower if they're in a body with no limbs.
Sam: From the minute I saw that blood, only thought in my head...and I tell myself it's for the right reasons, my intentions are good, and it, it feels true, you know? But I think, underneath... I just miss the feeling. I know how messed up that sounds, which means I know how messed up I am. Thing is, the problem's not the demon blood, not really. I mean, I, what I did, I can't blame the blood or Ruby or... anything. The problem's me. How far I'll go. There's something in me that... scares the hell out of me, Dean. In the last couple of days, I caught another glimpse...

Trivia & References

The episode title "Good God, Y'All" is from the line 'War! Huh! Good God, y'all' a lyric from the song "War" originally sung by Edwin Starr and covered by many including Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Bruce Springsteen.
Dean: Cell phone, Cas? Really? Since when do angels need to reach out and touch someone?
"Reach out and touch someone" was the slogan of an ad campaign by AT&T in the '80s. Dean previously referenced this ad campaign in 3.14 Long-Distance Call.
Bobby: Enough foreplay. Get over here and lay your damn hands on. Get healing -- now.
Bobby is referring to the religious practice of laying on of hands.
Castiel: Yes. He isn't in Heaven. He has to be somewhere.

Dean: Try New Mexico. I hear he's on a tortilla.
Castiel: No, he's not on any flatbread.

This exchange is a reference to referring to the 1977 story of a woman called Maria Rubio from New Mexico who became famous for claiming to see a likeness of Jesus Christ on a tortilla she'd made.
Dean: Hmm. Where'd you serve?

Austin: Fallujah. Two tours. Got back a little over a year ago.

Fallujah is a city in Iraq. Austin likely served in the Iraq war.
When Ellen knocks on the door of the basement room, she knocks the morse code for S O S.
Austin: So, uh, you think that all this comes from outer space?

Dean: This isn't X-Files, pal.

The X-Files was a '90s TV series about FBI investigations of the paranormal and aliens. Many of the writers, producers, directors, and some actors of Supernatural have also done work for The X-Files. See a full list here.
War comes to town driving a red Mustang. According to the Book of Revelation, War rides a red horse.
When War introduces himself to Sam, he says "I was in Germany, then in Germany, then in the Middle East... I was in Darfur when my beeper went off." This is somewhat similar to the lyrics of the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy for the Devil" in which the song's narrator (Lucifer) speaks of himself as being a protagonist or participant in many of the dark episodes of history. War's comment makes references to World War I, World War II, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the genocide in Darfur.
War: Please. Last week, this was Mayberry. Now these people are stabbing each other's children.
Mayberry was the name of the idyllic small town where the '60s sitcom The Andy Griffith Show was set.
War: Honestly, people don't need a reason to kill each other. I mean, you seen the Irish? They're all Irish!
A reference to the conflict known as The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Rufus: I'm getting too old for this.
This is a reference to Danny Glover's famous catch phrase in the Lethal Weapon series.
Dean: So, pit stop at Mount Doom?
Dean is referring to the place where Frodo and Sam traveled to dispose of the Ring of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings. This is likely in response to the way War is defeated. His ring finger is cut off, which is how Sauron lost his power before the main events of The Lord of the Rings.
