After Jim Morgan loses a hot dog-eating contest to Wayne McNut who then dies under mysterious circumstances, Sam and Dean interrogate Jim Morgan at his home. Dean comments on the odd collection of occult-looking jars and boxes, and Jim tells him that they're his Romanichal wife, Mala's, good-luck charms. Sam investigates his bedroom under the guise of looking for the restroom. There, he finds a Putsi bag which he steals to examine back at their motel.

Later, Mala turns up at Sam and Dean's motel telling them that the Putsi bag is hers. She explains that she didn't want to kill or curse Wayne with the bag, but to help give him a blessing to win the hot dog-eating contest. In fact, she confesses that she loved him and that they'd been having an affair for years. Mala's plan had been to get a quick divorce, take the prize money, and head to Orlando to marry Wayne.
