11.16 Safe House

In April 2009, the Hendersons' first night in their new home, Mary's son Will calls out for help in the middle of the night, saying he's hearing strange noises, like footsteps. By the time Mary and her husband get to Will's room, he's on the ground unconscious. He's taken to the hospital where he lies in a coma, vitals slowly withering away, a handprint on his ankle.

When Mary arrives home one day to retrieve her son's favorite doll and doesn't answer her phone, her husband calls the police. They find her collapsed into a coma, handprint on her ankle, just like her son's. After a few days, she wakes up in the hospital and is told by two FBI agents—Bobby and Rufus—to never touch the wallpaper in the sitting room. Unbeknownst to her, she and her son had been attacked by a soul eater and Bobby and Rufus had saved their lives by painting a celtic sigil beneath the wallpaper to keep the soul eater at bay.

In 2016, years after putting the house up for sale and moving, Mary is visited by two more FBI agents—Sam and Dean—and she worries that her son is in danger again. They assure her that he isn't, but they want to know more about her experience. Mary tells them that, during her coma, she had a "nightmare" where she was in a strange version of the house where she saw her husband's dead body and a crowd of "spirits".
