Mitchell and his wife Leann are glamping in the Wharton State Forest, getting ready to go to sleep. Mitchell kisses Leann goodnight before snuggling up in his sleeping bag and putting his iPod on to drift off to a recording of nature sounds. During the night, Mitchell wakes up hanging upside down from a tree in his sleeping bag. He calls out for his wife but gets no response. Hearing noises and noticing a figure stalking through the woods, Mitchell tries to tell it to stay away. However, the figure soon kills Mitchell and eats him through his sleeping bag.

After Mitchell's corpse is discovered, it draws Sam's attention and he, Dean, and Bobby begin investigating the recent disappearances in town, and Mitchell's murder. It is later revealed that the culprit of the murder of Mitchell and disappearance of Leann was a local air-conditioning repairman, Gerald Browder. Gerald had turned into a cannibalistic mottled wretch due to an adverse side-effect of the additive the leviathans were testing on the Turducken Slammer sandwich at Biggerson's.
