Barely had the credits rolled on the series finale 15.20 Carry On, when fans started asking if, and when, the show would return. Fans dubbed this Season 16.

The Winchesters

The series The Winchesters initially seemed to be a prequel to Supernatural set in 1972 when John and Mary first met. It turned out to be set on alternative version of the Supernatural earth, after Dean dies, while Sam is still alive. Dean travels from Heaven, looking for a universe where the Winchesters had a happy life. He finds out that Chuck created the Akrida to wipe out all existence in the case that he was defeated. In order to protect Sam and his Earth, Dean brings Mary and John together in this universe to defeat them.

2019

4 August, 2019. Before Season 15 had even started, Jensen spoke about the show's future at the Television Critics Association:

It’s [a] long journey that I don’t think is ever going to be over. I think we’re just going to go away for a while. For how long, I don’t know.

then CW CEO Mar Pedowitz said:

You will always have a home here. And you will always have a personal fan in me.

I have this lofty dream of when, after things have settled, we’ll tackle one more case as Sam and Dean… [Maybe] a nice 10-episode short-order for HBO Max — I’m just saying. Like a whole True Detective meets Supernatural. It’s right there.

5 June, 2022: J2 panel Chicago Con - Jensen on what plotlines he would like to see in a reboot.

Have it be like True Detective and have it just do one case for 10 or 12 episodes. Come back for one big massive case.

10 July, 2022: Jensen Ackles Would Return for a Supernatural Revival - Just Not Yet by screenrant. Jensen said that after 15 years of working on the series, it was time for him and Padalecki to "press pause and come up for air." however...

Touching on rebooting Supernatural, yeah… I don’t think Jared and I hung up the boots so to speak as a permanent move… Fifteen years, we needed to just press pause… and come up for air and see what that looks like. But what the future holds… I definitely think that he and I would be up for talking about that.

15 Feb, 2024: Supernatural Revival Series Not happening by TVLine. The CW’s new boss, Brad Schwartz.

We’ve had no discussions about any kind of spinoff. Supernatural was one of the Top 10 most-streamed shows last year. And it’s an incredible franchise with an incredible legacy, incredible history.

1 April, 2024 : April Fools! by CBR. On April Fools Day, Misha shared a fake Variety article titled "Supernatural resurrection".

"This reboot of Supernatural will be a bold take on the series, featuring an all-female cast. Samantha, Deanna, and Cass will be supported by their friends Alexa and Bobbi." Among the alleged changes included AI usage, "more nudity than in The Boys" for Ackles' character, and no Misha Collins as Castiel: "Misha who?"

6 May, 2024: Misha at Comic Con Stockholm said he like to see see a storyline in which Cas is rescued from The Empty. 2 April, 2024: Jared talks Supernatural reunion

“Jensen and I feel so strongly about our show that we had for 15 years together that we don’t wanna just do it, just to do it. We don’t wanna go, “Hey, I have two weeks off in June. Let’s go ahead and shoot 10 pages a day, just so we can have some more content.” If and when Supernatural comes back, it’s going to be a labor of love, and we’re gonna put every hour in to make sure that it’s as true to the canon and to the fandom and to the story and to the characters as possible. So, my short answer is it’s not a consideration, the answer is yes. I just don’t know when I’m available. I don’t know when he’s available. But again, my answer is yes.”

The simple answer to your question is 100%. I will play Sam Winchester again. Jensen will play Dean Winchester again. It's more of a timing and availability thing.

Of course, I’d want to see it. Whether I’m a part of it depends on, could I find something fresh about it that I have never seen before? Obviously, I’ve told a lot of those stories, but if there was something out there that really surprised me, I love that universe , and I’d be interested in looking at that. It’s tricky to find what story in that universe hasn’t been told, but if someone can find one, I’m all in, baby.

6 July, 2024: Jared Padalecki Gives His Thoughts on a Supernatural Reboot on Tommy DiDario’s I’ve Never Said This Before podcast.

I don’t want to do another 15 years of Supernatural. I don’t want to do another 5 years of Supernatural, I am dying to do a reboot of Supernatural akin to the Gilmore Girls reboot: “Here are four one-and-a-half-hour episodes. We’ll shoot it in three months".
