Shortly afterwards, Lucifer and Michael arrive in the Winchesters universe and Lucifer succeeds in tempting Jack to leave with him while Michael attacks the bunker. However, Jack returns in time to defeat Michael and turns on Lucifer when Lucifer's own actions are revealed. Lucifer steals the grace of his son, leaving Jack powerless and Lucifer super-charged. With Lucifer poised to destroy everything in creation and remake it as he wishes, Dean makes a deal with Michael where he will become Michael's [[vessel]] in exchange for Michael powering his fight with Lucifer while allowing Dean to remain in control. Powered by Michael, Dean fights Lucifer and ultimately kills him with an [[archangel blade]]. However, Michael betrays his deal with Dean, seizes control of his body and departs, loose upon the world and in his true vessel.<ref name="thirteen23">[[13.23 Let the Good Times Roll]]</ref>
 
Free upon the world, Michael decides to ally himself with monsters<ref name="fourteen01" />, performing experiments to create [[Michael's Monsters|enhanced monsters]].<ref name="fourteen02" /> After a confrontation with [[Dark Kaia]] leaves him wounded by [[The Spear|her spear]],<ref name="fourteen03" /> Michael abandons Dean's body, leaving him in control again.<ref name="fourteen02" /> However, Michael leaves the door open a crack in Dean's mind so that he can spy through his eyes at time and return to his true vessel at will.<ref name="fourteen09" /><ref name="fourteen10" /> With the threat of Michael growing, Castiel learns of his location from [[Naomi]]<ref name="fourteen08" /> and the Winchesters learn from [[Garth]], acting as a spy, that Michael intends to turn all of Kansas City into his army. An attempt to stop Michael with the spear and the [[hyperbolic pulse generator]] fails, leaving both destroyed and Michael in control of Dean again.<ref name="fourteen09" /> Sam, Jack and Castiel are able to capture Michael and enter Dean's mind to help him fight back against the archangel. Instead of ejecting Michael, Dean chooses to imprison him within his own mind.<ref name="fourteen10" />
 
Warned by Billie that every version of his fate but one features Michael escaping and destroying the world,<ref name="fourteen10" /> Dean builds the [[Ma'lak Box]], a magical coffin capable of imprisoning even an archangel for eternity,<ref name="fourteen11" /> but is talked out of using it and instead trying to find a different option.<ref name="fourteen12" /> After Dean is knocked unconscious by the [[gorgon]] [[Noah Ophis]], Michael escapes his body and takes [[witch]] [[Rowena MacLeod]] as his vessel. However, tapping into the power of his soul, Jack is able to exorcise Michael and burn away the archangel, killing him and allowing Jack to absorb his grace to restore his own Nephilim powers.<ref name="fourteen14" /> However, in the process, Jack burns away his entire [[soul]] and is left [[soulless]] from killing Michael.<ref name="fourteen17" />
 
When God begins the end of the world, he opens every door in Hell, including the door to Lucifer's Cage. According to the demon [[Belphegor]], Michael remains just sitting in the Cage, but Belphegor suggests that he might be looking for revenge for being trapped if he does leave.<ref name="fifteen01" />
