When God begins the end of the world, he opens every door in Hell, including the door to Lucifer's Cage. According to the demon Belphegor, the Prime Earth version of Michael remains just sitting in the Cage, but Belphegor suggests that he might be looking for revenge for being trapped if he does leave.
Michael eventually escapes from the Cage, still in the body of Adam Milligan and sharing control with his vessel. After learning from the demon tablet that Michael might know something that could help them, the Winchesters seek out the help of the archangel, taking him prisoner and trying to convince him of the threat from God. Despite not forgiving his brothers, Adam also tries to convince the petulant archangel to heed their warnings. Disillusioned by their revelations, particularly Castiel's memories of Godand the Apocalypse World version of himself, Michael provides them with the spell to trap his father and opens a portal to Purgatory for them, but refuses to otherwise help and departsafter allowing Dean to speak with Adam.
After God wipes out every living thing on Earth, Michael agrees to help the Winchesters against his father, but is unable to open Chuck's Death Book for them. The group is joined by a resurrected Lucifer shortly thereafter with Lucifer claiming that the Cosmic Entity resurrected him to give the Winchesters and Jack a hand in destroying God. Lucifer helps open the book by killing Betty, a Reaper and turning her into the new incarnation of Death. However, Lucifer betrays his brother, the Winchesters and Jack and reveals that God was actually the one to resurrect him in order to get the book, stating that he Lucifer is now God's Favorite instead of Michael. After a short battle, Michael is able to kill Lucifer with an archangel blade supplied to him by the Winchesters. However, desperate to become God's Favorite once again, Michael betrays the Winchesters and their plan to use a spell from the Book of the Damned to destroy God. Enraged by Michael's previous betrayal, God nevertheless obliterates Michael, rendering the archangels extinct. However, the Winchesters had anticipated Michael's betrayal and used him to feed a false plan to God in order to lure Him into a trapdesigned to render him powerless and make Jack Kline the New God.
