History
In August 2015, the Ackles and Collins families took a boat trip which Jensen and Misha posted about on social media. They then went on to relay stories from the trip at conventions, one of which was dubbed "The Boat Story" by fans.

Fan: People on Twitter have been seeing some really great photos from Jensen and Misha's boat trip. [...] I was wondering if there was any fun stories that you guys would like to tell and we love the photos that we saw, and we would love to see some more maybe—
Jensen: From the boat ride?
Fan: Yeah.
Jensen: Did Misha tell any? [...] He didn't tell any stories? [...] Yeah, uh, it was a fun time, brought the whole family and all the kids were runnin' around, and, uh, get on the boat and, uh, Misha's like 'I can't get the engine started.' So, he goes down in the engine, takes off the hatch, starts, like, checking the oil, and I just think to myself, like, 'I wonder if he put it in neutral.' And I go over and I go, [mimes turning on the boat with the key and the engine roaring to life] 'There you go, buddy.' I'm like, 'Are you driving? Oh, jeeze.' Uh, it was fun. There's some more stories, but I'll let him tell ya. That was one of many. Another one that included him, uhm, having to-- having to strip down, put some goggles on, because we were attached to something under the boat. [...] This is a family trip. This is a family story. But luckily he didn't have to dive underneath the boat and untangle us, I was able to reach it, so. Seriously, it was a crab trap [...] Nevermind.

Salute to Supernatural Vancouver 2015
Fan: A few weeks ago now, you and Jensen went on a family boat trip. Last week at MinnCon, somebody asked Jensen about that, and he gave us a few little stories, but he said you would tell us some more stories, so I hope you could elaborate on that, maybe?
Misha: Someone relayed to me what he said, and it sounded like he had done a great job telling the story. [...] It was, like, about me going down, I stripped my clothes off and then I went down, I went under something?
Fan: Yeah, 'cause there was, like, something stuck under the boat.
Misha: Well, yeah, ok, something happened like that. Actually, you know what, that boat trip, for me, was totally emasculating because Jensen is a mariner, kind of. Like, he had a boat for a little while, but then he got rid of his boat, so, you know, he went out a few times and he learned a few things. I was gonna drive this boat and I was like, 'Come on, Jensen, you wanna go-- bring the family down, we'll go grab a boat.' And, I was, uh, I hit another boat pretty much right away.
Uh, oh no, that wasn't the first thing that happened! The first thing that happened was I couldn't start the boat. I was like, well, we can call this boat triple-A, and he was like, 'Is it in neutral?' And I was like 'Of course I have it in...' [mimes flipping the switch to neutral] 'Yes, it is in neutral. [mimes trying the key again] Let me try again. Yeah, it starts, it started, I don't know why it started!' And, uh, then I hit another boat, and then something else happened and Jensen saved the day.
And then we had this crab trap that we threw down. We put some bait in the crab trap, we threw it down and we went out then we came back, we got the crab trap, and then pulling it up and then the ropes get all tangled up, I presume, in the propellers. We're gonna be stranded out here for days. So, I work on it, I can't get it, I'm reaching around— I have this little waterproof case on my iPhone, so I stick it in the water and I video under the boat to see if I can figure out what it's stuck on. Of course I can't see shit with that. So, I felt like a real problem solver at that point. And then, Jensen's like, 'Well, let me try it.' and I was like, 'I already tried it. Can't get it. It's stuck.' And, so, he starts wiggling with it, and I'm like 'Alright, I'm gonna be proactive.' So, I start taking my clothes off because I'm gonna jump in the water, swim underwater, and under the propellers and untangle the rope. And, as soon as I get my clothes off, Jensen's like, 'I got it, guys.' I dunno, at a certain point, I would say, 'Why would you do that? Just let it stay stuck until I can unstick it.' 'cause I'm looking like a real schmuck out here all day. Anyway. It felt pretty insensitive.
