Synopsis

A girl is chased down an alley by Raul. He catchers her and she begs him not to hurt her, she promises to come back. He grabs her, and she stabs him in the eye with one of her high heels. Raul then reveals to the girl his black eyes and breaks her neck.

Sam and Dean are eating in a restaurant and Sam is looking through the paper for a case. Dean says there isn't a case, that they stopped to get a good steak. When Dean's phone start “blowing up,” Sam grabs it to see what is going on. He discovers that Dean has a dating app, and that they came here so Dean could hook up with a woman. It turns out that the woman, Shaylene, is a hooker, and she is willing to trade sex for Dean's soul.

Castiel and Hannah continue to track down angels and return them to Heaven. Hannah suddenly takes off her clothes to take a shower, Castiel is confused, and Hannah wants to know if her nakedness bothers Cas. As they are checking out of the hotel, Hannah is confronted by her vessel's (Caroline Johnson) husband, Joe Johnson. He wants to know why she left, so Hannah explains that she is having an affair with Castiel. When Joe doesn't believe her, she kisses Castiel, and then the two of them leave.

Dean wants to help Shaylene, so Sam and Dean set a trap for her pimp, who is a demon. After catching him in a devil's trap, Sam and Dean question the demon to find out how many girls are involved. Before he can answer, Shaylene kills the demon in a fit of anger so the boys have to track down clues elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Rowena arrives at the brothel where the sex for souls trade is headquartered. She kills Raul using an ancient hex, and then she invites the working girls, Elle and Caitlin to come along with her. Rowena wines and dines the two hookers in an attempt to get them to join her coven. She explains how the Grand Coven threw her out because her magic was too extreme so she was banned from taking students and forming her own coven, however, she wants to be their mentor. They agree, and as the leave the restaurant, the waiter Rowena had hex suddenly dies violently.

Crowley finds out about the sex for souls trade from Gerald, who had escaped Rowena's attack. Crowley is not pleased. He proclaims the sex trade is tacky and wants it cleaned up. When Sam and Dean find the brothel, they discover the gruesome body of Raul. When Sam finds a hex bag, they conclude that Raul was killed by a witch. The boys research the hex used to kill Raul, and they discover that a witch, by the name of Rowena, created it, and she was the only one that ever used it. Sam and Dean then investigate the dead waiter, who died in a similar manner. After talking with other hunters, who are aware of other such grisly murders in fancy hotels, Sam and Dean decide to check out all the 5 star hotels in the area.

Cole Trenton has captured a demon, and proceeds to torture it for any information on Dean. Hannah feels bad about lying to Joe because she didn't want to hurt him. Castiel reassures her that she did the right thing because Joe had to move on, Castiel explains what happened to Jimmy Novak, but Castiel concludes that the mission always comes first. However, Hannah decides that the right thing to do is to return to Heaven and let her vessel go back to her husband. This leads Castiel to look up Jimmy Novak online.

As Rowena begins training her new coven, demons arrive to nab Rowena, however Sam and Dean interrupt the capture and kill the demons. When they confront Rowena, she uses an "attack dog spell" on Elle as a diversion. Sam fights Elle while Dean chases after Rowena. Dean catches her in an alley, but then Cole catches Dean, in a standoff of guns. Cole tells Dean to drop his weapon, and when he does Rowena runs away. Dean apologizes to Cole for the last time they met. Cole says he researched demons, but he is shocked when the holy water he throws in Deans face doesn't burn him. Dean says he isn't a demon anymore, but Cole thinks Dean is still a monster. They fight, and a very human Dean is still able to overpower Cole, Dean grabs his gun and points it at Cole. Cole wants Dean to kill him, but Dean refuses. Dean wants five minutes to explain to Cole, he hands his gun to Cole and says if Cole doesn't like what he hears he can kill Dean. Dean explains that he hunts monsters and that Cole's father was a monster. Dean tracked Ed Trenton back to his house and Dean killed Ed so he wouldn't kill Cole and his mother.

Back in the hotel, Sam manages to throw Elle in the closet where she eventually dies from the spell. He then arrives in the alley and comes up behind Cole, who is pointing a gun at Dean. Dean asks Sam to put down his weapon, Sam trusts Dean so he lowers his gun. Dean empathizes with Cole's situation, and he understands how circumstances can blind someone and make them do things they normally wouldn't. The people that love Dean pulled him back from that dark edge, Dean thinks that he is past saving and that he will die by a gun or blade. Sam then reminds Cole about his family, and Cole hands the gun back to Dean. After Cole leaves, Sam wants to know if Dean really believes he is past saving. Dean says he just told the guy what he needed to hear and turns to walk away with Sam following.

Gerald returns to Crowley telling him that the Winchesters killed their "Alpha" team, but he had a "Beta" team waiting in the winfs and were able to capture the witch. When Crowley goes to meet her, Rowena taunts him, and in shock, Crowley responds, “Mother?”

Quotes

Sam: We detoured eight hours so you could get laid?
Rowena: Hardly the most appetizing process in the world, but killing demons always makes me hungry.
Gerald: Your decree last month, soul deals way down after the war with Abaddon. You said that you were looking at proactive and out of the box strategies to get numbers back up.
Crowley: So you and your half-wit pal threw me into the sex trade? I'm evil, that's just tacky.
Hannah: He wouldn't listen Castiel, he wouldn't let me go. I didn't want to hurt him, I could have erased his memories, but it didn't feel right. I thought if he truly believed we were together, he would give up -- it worked. So why does it feel so bad?

Castiel: You did the right thing. You hurt him, but you gave him a reason, something he can use to move forward make sense of his loss. I had to take my vessel from his family -- twice, actually. Jimmy Novak; he's a good man, he was married, had a daughter... Claire.
Hannah: And?

Castiel: And it was difficult, but necessary. The mission comes first -- always.
Hannah: I'm sorry Castiel, I'm not going with you. I'm done. It's hard letting go -- the story, the mission. What of the humans, whose lives we sacrifice in the name of that mission, what of them? We always said the humans were our original mission; maybe it's time Castiel, time to put them first.

Castiel: Where is all this coming from?

Hannah: Being on Earth, working with you. I felt things, human things -- passions, hungers. To shower, feel water on my skin, to get closer to you. But all of that was nothing compared to what I felt when I saw him. Her husband, his anger and his grief. Caroline was inside me screaming out for him, for her life back. These feelings they aren't for me, for us. They belong to her. I know it's time to step aside... Goodbye Castiel.
Dean: I'm not a demon anymore.

Cole: Were you a demon when you murdered my father?
Dean: No.

Cole: Then you're still a monster.
Dean: What I do is hunt monsters. Your dad Cole, your dad was a monster.

Cole: You say that now, but the last time we fought you couldn't even remember his name.
Dean: 2003 Nyack, New York, Ed Trenton. I was working a case three dead, livers ripped out and eaten by your father.
Cole: Livers.
Dean: I tracked him down that night, to your house.
Cole: When you say he was a monster, what kind of monster was he?

Dean: I don't know, I never seen that kind before, never seen it again. All I know is that he came home that night looking to kill, it could have been you, it could have been your mom.
Cole: How can I believe you? How can I believe you!? My whole life I've been...
Dean: I get it, that was your story. Look man I got one of those too, okay but those stories that we tell that keep us going. Man, sometimes they blind us. They take us to dark places -- the kind of place where I might beat the crap out of a good man, just for the fun of it. The people who love me, they pulled me back from that edge. Cole once you touch that darkness... it never goes away. Now the truth is... I'm past saving. I know how my story ends, it's at the edge of a blade or the barrel of a gun. So the question is is that gonna to be today? It gonna be that gun?
Sam: What you said earlier back there, about being past saving were you really-
Dean: I was just telling the guy what he needed to hear. We better go.
Rowena: The king at last... King of what, Lilliput? I mean I heard you were short. Well, get to it. Time for the coup de grace, wee boy. Something the matter with you? Cat got your tongue, hmm? Meeowww.
Crowley: Mother?
