As expected, it started to rain as the boys left the bunker. Sam told Dean about a possible case in Quaker Valley, Oregon. A town outside of Eugene. The local sherrif, Dwayne Markham was found in the woods with his body mauled, so the local official categorized it as animal attack. The boys thought it might be a werewolf attack. They agreed that it was thin but they headed to Oregon anyway. Sam then pulled out a tumbler filled of smoothies and Dean was pissed because some of the beers had been put away to make room for Sam’s smoothie. The bickering was interrupted by a phone call from Castiel. He told the brothers that he couldn’t find anything related to the case they were handling. The boys insisted that Cas’ only job right now is to focus to help himself get better. Sam told Cas to distract himself with Netflix and Cas finally agreed. After Cas hang up, Dean told Sam that they all need some time.

Dean pulled over to a roadhouse with Sam’s objection. It was so dodgy that he claimed that even Swayze wouldn’t want to stop here. His objection was overruled. Dean told him two things. The first one is to never use Swayze’s name in vain and the second was that he wanted to find Heather, a hunter who they worked with on a Wendigo case a couple of years ago. Dean was hoping he could have some good time her with her. While Sam said that he would find a diner and dig into the lore like Cass did.

Sam woke up to Judy Collin’s Someday Soon. He asked, “What are you listening to?” only to find the younger version of John Winchester answered, “Your mom used to love this song.” Sam who was in a very shocked state couldn’t say anything. He wasn’t sure if it was a vision or just another dream. John told him that whatever is this, he’s only here to deliver a message. That The Darkness is coming and only the boys could stop it. Sam insisted that there should be a way to stop The Darkness and John needed to tell him, but John only answered, “God helps those who help themselves.” Sam asked John one last question before he woke up, “Who are you?”

Sam woke up inside the Impala. Dean welcomed him to “The Winchester Hotel” and offered him a can of beer and told him that he was singing the song that their mom loved in his sleep. Sam then proceeded telling Dean about his dream or vision and the message that it brought. Sam told Dean that the message might be from God and Dean didn’t believe the idea. Sam also came clean about him being infected. He claimed that he was be able to find the cure after he prayed to God. Dean is convinced that whatever Sam saw was only a fever dream, a side effect of the infection. Dean told Sam that he also dreamed about their Dad all the time. Sam wasn’t convinced and still believed that God or something else tried to send them a message. Dean told Sam that whatever it is, The Darkness is on them. They are the ones who needs to fix this. They agreed to focus on the case they are working on.

The boy headed to Aunt Mel’s. Dean was pissed because they had to valet park. He reluctantly gave the key to Jessie, the valet. Jessie with an excited face drove away and called her friend to pick her up. The girls then drove around town. They were just having fun when Jesse’s phone rang and her boss asked her to come back soon. Jesse’s friend couldn’t find her purse and was forced to leave the car without it.

Dean dropped Sam at the Sheriff house to ask if the wife had seen anything. He went back to the woods where the body was found because he felt that something was not right with the crime scene photos. Castiel called when Dean was observing the scene. Cas found a creature in the lore that matched the boys’ findings. Dean insisted on calling it the were-pire. But Cas didn’t get it and proceeded on explaining the lore. The creature was called a Whisper in the lore. Cas told Dean that silver would work but it was better to decapitate it just to be sure. Dean reported his findings. The crime scene was totally staged. Cas continued explaining the creature while the deputy stopped by. The deputy then attacked Dean. Cas who was totally oblivious of what was going on, continued talking. Only to find that some of the details didn’t match a Whisper characteristic, and agreed to call it the were-pire. With all the noise Dean and The Deputy making outside, Cas stopped explaining and kept calling Dean because something was clearly going on. Dean ended up decapitating the deputy’s head but weirdly, the head was still alive. Dean decided to put the head in the cooler box.

Dean took a picture of the were-pire’s teeth to Cas so he could check it. He then found missed calls from Sam and called him back immediately. Sam said that he got jumped and he managed to escape, taking the unconscious Mrs. Markham with him. Dean went to pick Sam up. A machete he used previously, fell under the front seat. Cas called right after Dean picked Sam and Mrs. Markham up. Cas informed them that the creature was a ghoul and vampire-like creature called Nachzehrer. Dean coined another new term, a Ghoul-pire. Cas continued to explain their characteristic and told the boys the only way to get rid of them is to remind them that they were dead by using the Charon’s Obol. A Charon’s Obol is a coin in ancient Greek mythology that was put inside the mouth of the dead people so the dead could use it as a currency to be taken across the river to the underworld. So the boys need to put a copper coin inside the Nachzehrer mouth and sever their head. If they managed to kill the alpha, the pack will turn into the human form.

Synopsis

The episode started with a shot of an Impala being assembled in the factory. It continued with flashbacks of how The Winchesters acquired Baby. It was when Dean traveled back to The past and persuaded John to get The Impala instead of The VW van.

The scene cuts back to the present time. Starting this scene, we will see the entire episode from Baby’s point of view. Dean is having a case of cabin fever and he claimed that he had washed every car in the bunker twice. Sam told him that he hasn’t make any progress on his search about Darkness. Cas is also doing nothing but healing himself. When Sam told Dean that there might be a case. Dean who couldn’t spend any more time in the bunker told Sam that he could fill him with the details on their way there. The scene ended with Dean spraying the windshield with water.

As expected, it started to rain as the boys left the bunker. Sam told Dean about a possible case in Quaker Valley, Oregon. A town outside of Eugene. The local sherriff, Dwayne Markham was found in the woods with his body mauled, so the local officials categorized it as animal attack. The boys thought it might be a werewolf attack. He told the brothers that he couldn’t find anything related to the case they were handling. The boys insisted that Cas’ only job right now is to focus to help himself get better. Sam told Cas to distract himself with Netflix and Cas finally agreed. After Cas hangs up, Dean told Sam that they all need some time.

They arrived at the Nachzehrer’s former nest. All the Nachzehrers had changed back to their human form. Dean helped the limping Sam got into car. They discussed of how the monsters were also freaked out by The Darkness. Dean told Sam that they’re gonna end this thing now which Sam replied by asking if they could do it starting tomorrow instead. Dean told Sam, “Let’s go home.” and Sam, pounding the dashboard with apparent affection answered. “We are home.”

Dean started the engine again, with the whistle and the rumbling of the engine, he said, “There’s my girl.” He turned up the volume and Night Moves started to play as the boys went back to the bunker.

Quotes

Dean: Where's the beer?

Sam: Under the smoothies.

Dean: Where's the rest of the beer?
Dean: Mistakes were made, mm-hmm.
Dean: Piper? That's awesome. Heather. One-night wonders, man. Shoot, we're lucky we still get that at all.
Sam: Hey Dean, um. You said when you saw the Darkness you weren't sure if it was the real thing or a vision, right? I think I've been having visions too, lately. It's just images, I mean more of a feeling, really. But I just had one right now, and-and Dad was in it, but it wasn't Dad like the Dad I grew up with, it was Dad when he was our age, and I guess it wasn't really Dad just someone pretending to be Dad.

Dean: Okay, what makes you say that.

Sam: For starters, he told me everything I wanted to hear.
Dean: As far as Dad goes, I dream about Dad all the time.

Sam: You do?
Dean: 'Course I do. It's usually the same one too, we're all in the car I'm sitting in the driver's seat and Dad's sitting shotgun. But there aren't any shotguns, and there's no monsters, no hunting, there's none of that. It's just he's teaching me how to drive, and I'm not little like I was when actually taught me how to drive, I'm sixteen and he's helping me get my learner's permit. Of course you're in the back seat just begging to take a turn, we pull up to the house -- the family house. I park in the driveway, and he looks over and he says, 'perfect landing son.' I have that dream every couple of months, it's kinda comforting actually.
Sam: I always dream about Mom, usually the same kind of thing though.
Dean: Normal life?

Sam: Yeah. Normal life.
Dean: Hey Cas, tell me you got something that doesn't involve chicks in prison.
Sam: Bet you never thought you'd say that out loud.
Dean: Oh Baby, I'm so sorry.
Sam: So it was Deputy Dumbass, huh?
Dean: Yeah, Deputy Dumbass. You know he was trying to build an army?
Sam: Dean even the monsters are scared.
Dean: Let 'em be. You and me, we're stopping this now.
Dean: Okay mom, let's go home.

[Sam taps on the dash]

Sam: You know what? We are home.
