Sam: Witch-killing bullets.
Dean: We gotta come up with a better name than that.

"Amara": I understand Dean.

Dean: Is that right?

"Amara": The longing in your heart, I feel it too.

"Amara": I can see inside your heart, feel the love you feel. Except, it's cloaked in shame. When it comes to this, you can't help yourself. So why fight it? Just give in.

Dean: Honestly? What you honestly think the sister of God is my deepest darkest desire.

Sam: She isn't?
Dean: No, she can't be.
Sam: Why not?
Dean: Why? Because if she was, then that means I'm-
Sam: Means you're what? Complicit? Weak? Evil?
Dean: For starters, yeah.

Sam: Dean, do you honestly think you ever had a choice in the matter? She's the sister of God. And for some reason she picked you, and that sucks, but if you think I'm gonna blame you or judge you, I'm not.

Sam: Just how bad is it?

Dean: Standing here right now? Every bone in my body wants to run her through, send her back to that hole she crawled out of. But when I'm near her... I don't know -- something happens. I can't explain it. But to call it desire, love -- it's not that. I'm screwed, man. We want to kill the Darkness. We need to kill the Darkness. And I don't think I can. I'm sorry to do that to you, you know? But when it comes down to it...

Trivia & References

"Love Hurts" is a reference to the song of the same name by The Everly Brothers, which was most famously covered by Scottish hard rock band Nazareth in 1975. "Love Hurts" was also previously used in episode 6.14 Mannequin 3: The Reckoning, which was also written by Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder.

The episode has a theme reminiscent of the 2014 horror film It Follows. The film tells the story of a curse that passed through sexual transmission. The entity "It" will pursue the victims of the curse at a walking pace, sometimes taking on the appearance of loved ones, before killing them. The only way to keep "It" at bay is by passing on the curse to someone else through the act of sex.

A copy of Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill can be seen on the coffee table as Staci goes to sit and watch TV.

The shows Staci channel surfs through include Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell (episode: "True Love Will Find You"), Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter (episode: "Bark Bark Yum Yum") and Rick and Morty (episode: "Rick Potion #9"). All the episodes revolve around the concept of love.

Dean: Yeah, and what'd you do judgey? Curl up in your Snuggie, watch 'Fifty Shades' on cable?

A Snuggie is a cross between a dressing gown and a blanket.

"Fifty Shades" refers to the BDSM themed movie Fifty Shades of Grey based on the book by E. L. James.

Dean uses the alias "Agent Weller," a reference to singer and musician Paul Weller from the English bands The Jam and Style Council.

Dean: Well, step aside Urkel.

Steve Urkel was a dorky character on the '90s sitcom Family Matters.

Sam: Shapeshifter.

Dean: Yahtzee.

Yahtzee is a dice made by Milton Bradley. Saying "Yahtzee!" has come to mean something good has happened, and is a favorite phrase of Dean's.

Dean: Hey, any luck?

Sam: No. You?
Dean: No. Hey, what's a-ah 'dad bod?'

A "dad bod" refers to the physique of guy whose in shape, but has a few years and quite a few beers under his belt.

Dean: Riddle me this. Why did Staci die first if she was kissed second?

"Riddle me this" is a catchphrase of the villain and nemesis of Batman, the Riddler from DC Comics.

Dean: Listen to me. Sonja is not just anyone, she is a wicked witch who offed your husband and tried to kill you. So if she shows up here, you punch or you stab her or you drop a freaking house on her if you have to.

In The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy's house from Kansas lands on the Wicked Witch of the East and kills her.

Sam: Here we go. Someone chants the curse and lays a wet one on you, then the victim is seduced and killed by the qareen. But instead of taking the form of Barbara Eden, they present themselves as your darkest, deepest desire.

Barbara Eden is best known for playing the character Jeannie in the 1965 sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.

Dean: Silver lining about being cursed. I'll finally get some face time with Daisy Duke. My deepest, darkest desire.

Sam: Seriously?
Dean: Ever since I was seven.
Sam: So, Bach not Simpson?
Dean: Pfft... Eh, I guess I wouldn't say 'no' to either.

Daisy Duke was a character on the 1979 TV series The Dukes of Hazzard, famous for wearing cut-off shorts, which in turn became known as Daisy Dukes. Daisy was portrayed by actress Catherine Bach in the TV series and Jessica Simpson in the 2005 film adaptation.

Minutiae

Venus Terzo, who played Sonja, previously played Joanna in 1.18 Something Wicked.

This episode marks the first time that Dean has ever beaten Sam in rock-paper-scissors. Though Dean did beat Sam in the alternate universe in 6.17 My Heart Will Go On.
