Synopsis

In Sheridan County, Nebraska, a young couple is camping out in the forest. The young girl is going off to vet school and planning to break it off with her boyfriend and in the meantime the boyfriend is planning to propose to her. On his way back to the camp he gets attacked by some kind of an invisible dog and killed. The dog comes after her and has her trapped on her back, she grabs an axe and injures it badly, giving her a chance to run back to town.

The boys arrive back home from working several cases in a row and Dean is an absolute mess wearing all kinds of monster bits all over him and smelling like dog. They get another case from a supposed app that Sam has made that calculates cases for them to take. Dean is read to run out again but Sam tells him he better wash up because he smells like road kill.

Cas is in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, investigating the killing of angels as well as looking for Kelly Kline. This scene starts out with him reading a tabloid about how a waitress died violently and that the man she worked for claims that it was from aliens. He goes inside the restaurant to meet the owner Herb Nelson who takes him into a private bunker that he has set up in the back. Convinced of an alien invasion. He shows him a video of the attack which he finds very strange for two basic reasons, one the weapons used in the attack which we know our angel blades he thinks are made of star metal aka alien technology and the main point the woman who comes to the pregnant woman’s rescue has yellow eyes.

Meanwhile the boys are investigating the dog attack only to find out that it is a Hellhound that has killed the young man and that the woman thinks that she is next. Sam wants to comfort her by telling her that a bear attacked her boyfriend whereas Dean wants to level with her and find out who made a deal with the demon.

They come into the ladies house to speak with her but little does anyone know the Hellhound is right behind them and comes into the house as well. As soon as they’re gone the Hellhound goes to attack the woman she tries to defend herself but cannot 10 runs into another room only to find herself once again pinned down by the dog. Sam and Dean rush back into the house and chase it out a window by shooting it.

Afterwards the boys sit the woman down and explain to her about Hellhound and that they have experience with them because that’s what they do, kill monsters.

In his investigation as to why angels are being killed Cas finds out that the Angels are also looking for Kelly Klein the one carrying Lucifer son. The other angel suggested that he has to work with them in order to find her and destroy the spawn of Satan. And with this all Cas’ sins will be forgiven and he’ll be welcomed back into heaven. Cas is very unconvinced.

Meanwhile down in hell Crowley has a little Candace must macho with Lucifer who is tied down to a chair with iron chains. He’s basically says that he has plans for him. He is interrupted by two of his demons that say that they are backlogged with crossroads deals that need his attention. While he is in the middle have seeing to business dean phones Crowley to see why hellhound is attacking someone who has not sold their soul. The demon said that it was Ramsey, Lucifer’s Hellhound. Ramsey is completely loyal to Lucifer and only Lucifer.

The two demons that had been working with Crowley about five crossroads deals then sneak into the room where Crowley is keeping Lucifer and set him free. They also reveal that they’ve set Ramsey free to create a distraction to see what Crowley was hiding.

Sam, Dean and Crowley all go to try and find Ramsey the Hellhound. Sam stays with the girl and baby, while Dean and Crowley go into the woods to look for the Hellhound. They banter about how they’ve each changed over the years, including rubbing off on each other.

Sam and the young lady are driving along the highway; she’s having flashbacks and blames herself for what happened to her boyfriend. She asks to pull over and they do she throws up. She explains how she’s guilt written then bringing Marcus camping when she knew full well that the relationship was over because of her leaving state to go to school. As the two are about to take off again Sam sees Ramsey.

Ramsey sees the pair in the car and stomps all over poor Baby. Sam gets out his demon knife and tells the girl to stay in the car. He gets out the car at which time Ramsey promptly attacks and the two scuffle. The Hellhound get Sam on his back and the special demon seeing glasses are knocked off of his face. The girl jumps out of the car and wax the demon in the head to give Sam a chance. Ramsey makes one final charge drink which Sam stabs her and kills her.

The group reconvene at the car and see the hound has been defeated. After all of their efforts, Gwen thanks Crowley and he disappears. Dean sees baby’s condition and is not happy.

In Hell, Crowley approaches Lucifer’s dungeon only to find him on his throne! Lucifer is all smugged down on himself Nice as he’s sitting on Crowley’s own throne but Crowley hasn’t answer to for him. Tells him how he’s always 10 steps ahead of him and how his vessel that he was originally in is now awarded with the spells and ruins from the cage. And now Lucifer’s essence being in this vessel, Crowley owns him.

The two boys arrive home and are talking to Cas on the phone. He tells them Kellie is now under the care of Dagon, a prince of Hell thought only to be a rumour. He is in a female vessel, and bares Azazel’s glowing yellow eyes.

Sam’s phone keeps going of which he had explained away earlier as his case finding app. It goes off another time and finally Sam fesses up that all the cases they’ve been working had been found by the British Men of Letters. Sam quickly apologizes but rationalizes that they get results like the alpha vampire being dead. Dean sees his point and reluctantly agrees. The two make a deal that the first second anything seems off they bail. Sam’s phone goes off again, Dean says to answer so he does. And the scene leaves us here…

Quotes

Sam: Dean, you're covered in ghoul, man, and -- and --- and wraith. You... I think you have a piece of siren in your hair.
Sam: I-I made a computer algorithm that scrapes data from police scanners, emergency calls, uh, local news sites, and then it puts everything through a h-- The computer told me.
Dean: Computers, heh. Monsters, porn. Is there anything they can't do? All right. Well, let's get to it, then.
Dean: Tell her what? No, seriously, Sam, what are you gonna say? 'Hi, my name is Sam Winchester. This is my much handsomer brother Dean. We hunt monsters. Oh, and that guy you were banging? We're pretty sure he made a deal with a demon, so a hellhound came and dragged his soul to Hell. But you? You're cool. And since there's nothing around for us to kill, peace out.'
Crowley: You cross me, I crush you. You hit me, I hit you back twice as hard. You make me your dog, I make you my slave.
Victor: And moving on to, um, case 41, Awar, a Rank Three demon, claims to have had six babies. But then Morax, a Rank Two demon, took two of his babies, which would leave Awar with... yes, um, four babies.
Thomas: Which I think we can all agree, isn't enough babies... for a decent meal.
Crowley: Right after God said, 'Let there be light,' He -- He made a whole bunch of things -- posies, koalas, hellhounds. He wanted the Creator's best friend, but the hounds were too vicious. So He planned on having them put down, until along came our favorite fallen angel. He rescued one of the hounds -- a pregnant bitch named Ramsey.
Dean: Great. So we have a hellhound who's gunning for revenge, and it's personal. Ah, just when I thought this gig couldn't get any weirder...
Crowley: Oh. It can always get weirder.
Dean: Take care of her.

Sam: Of course. Dean, look, even if Ramsey circles back, as long as we keep moving, Gwen's gonna be just... You're talking about the car.
Dean: You tend to ride the brakes.
Sam: Dean, I know how to drive.
Dean: I'm just saying. Okay, just imagine she's a... a beautiful woman.
Sam: Oh, come on. Get out of here.
Dean: A beautiful, beautiful woman.
Sam: I'm done.

Dean: Sam...
Crowley: Or... a few years ago, who would've thought you'd be working with the King of Hell? Maybe you've rubbed off on me. Maybe I've rubbed off all over you.
Sam: Dean, because of Mick and his guys the Alpha Vampire is dead. They get results. I don't like them either, but if we can save people... Either way I shouldn't have lied to you, and I'm sorry, man. I-
Dean: Well, okay.

Trivia & References

"Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell" is a reference to the album of the same name by American Punk band Social Distortion.
Dean: Man! Dad loved this thing.
Dean says this while holding a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat that resembles Lucille from The Walking Dead. Lucille is the signature weapon of Negan. Both Negan and John Winchester are played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Jensen, Jeffrey, and fellow Walking Dead actor Michael Cudlitz had joked about a Walking Dead / Supernatural crossover on Twitter. The bat seen on the Impala is the one used in this episode. Also, similar to the state the characters from the Walking Dead find themselves in, Dean is also covered in gore from a ghoul, a wraith, and a siren.
Sam's phone has Mick Davies' name listed as "Frodo" a reference to the protagonist of the Lord of the Rings series. Mary in turn has the British Men of Letters listed as "Hobbits" as seen in 12.12 Stuck in the Middle (With You).
Sam: Mom just finished working a haunting in Akron.

Dean: The Brits?
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Great. Who you gonna call? Douchebusters.

Castiel uses the alias "Agent Solange" a reference to Solange Knowles, sister of Beyoncé. Sam and Dean use the aliases "Agents Baker and Clapton," a reference to Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton, who performed together in the bands Blind Faith and Cream.
Castiel: Yes, your waitress. In this article you said, uh, you said that she was killed by an alien.

Herb: Well, not just aliens. Reptilians. You know... like the Queen of England.

Reptilians are a race of aliens believed to be secretly controlling the world.
Herb: And I-I got proof. Um... You know... Ah. See? Most sheeple can't handle the truth. But not me. I'm woke. It's, uh... why I don't use, uh, new tech. Anything past '96, it's a trap. You know... PalmPilot. It's more like Tracking Device. Am I right?
The PalmPilot was a brand of handheld PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) popular in the '90s.
Ramsey's name may be a reference to Ramsay Bolton from the Game of Thrones series. In the TV show, Ramsay is noted (among other things) for his sadistic use of hunting hounds to hunt down his captives for sport. He ultimately meets his demise by being fed alive to these very hounds.
Dean: All right, Crowley and I are gonna hit the woods, see if we can't track down Cujo. You stick with Sam. He'll keep you safe.
Cujo is a horror novel by Stephen King (subsequently made into a movie) about a vicious rabid dog. Co-showrunner Robert Singer also produced the film adaptation.
Thomas: The only thing I care about is making Hell great again.
Reference to the Donald Trump presidential campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."
Dean: I mean, a few years ago, who'd have thought you'd be helping us save the girl of the week?
This is a meta comment referring to the victims that the Winchesters save using a phrase used to refer to the victim of the week in TV episodes.
Lucifer: Now what was that you were saying about always being two steps ahead? Buh-bye, Crowley.

Crowley: That's not what I said.
Lucifer: Huh? What the...
Crowley: I'm glad you had a little taste of freedom. What I said was, I'm always ten steps ahead. I said you cross me, I crush you. You hit me... I hit you back twice as hard. You make me your dog, I make you my slave. That chain around your neck was nothing. A stylish accessory. This vessel, that's your true prison. It's been warded with runes and spell-work from the Cage carved into every molecule. In there, I own you. I'm just getting started. So, I'm gonna put you back in your hole and then I'm gonna go find your spawn, and I'm gonna rip him a part while you watch. And then... I'm still just getting started.

Crowley's statement that the runes and spell-work from The Cage were carved into every molecule may be a reference to the recent development of a method to use a single magnetic atom to store Information.
Dean: What do you want me say? Do I like it? No. Do I trust them? Hell no. But you're right. We work with people we don't trust all the time. Hell, I just Liam Neeson'd it up with Crowley. So, if you wanna give this a shot, then fine. But the minute, and I mean the second, something feels off, we bail.
Dean's reference to having "Liam Neeson'd it up with Crowley" is a reference to the Taken series of films, in which Liam Neeson's character Bryan Mills has to team up with untrustworthy and bad people in order to stop a threat to himself or his family.
