Synopsis
Ed Bright and his friend Marshall Todd are leaving a sports bar in Grants Pass, Oregon, when Eve approaches them. Ed clumsily flirts with her, and she touches his face before leaving to enter the bar. Inside the bar, Eve locks the doors and breaks off the handles. She then proceeds to touch people's faces, turning them into hybrid monsters and provoking a mass feeding frenzy while she picks up a drink and watches.
Dean is packing the ashes of the Phoenix into shotgun shells to use against Eve, but they have no idea of her location. They call on Castiel, but he says that she is hidden from him. Instead, they decide to track down a monster that is sympathetic to their cause. Castiel quickly leaves and returns with Lenore the vampire, who describes how she, along with the others in her nest, have been unable to resist Eve's call to arms, and that through them, Eve will know what the Winchesters are up to. She tells them where Eve is, and then begs to be killed so she doesn't murder again. Sam and Dean are reluctant, but Castiel obliges.
When Dean, Sam, Bobby, and Castiel arrive in Grants Pass, Castiel finds that he has been blocked from using his angelic powers, most likely because of Eve's presence. Despite this, they manage to find out that Ed Bright recently visited a doctor - Dr Silver - who subsequently reported Ed's illness to the Centre for Disease Control. In a shed outside the doctor's office, Dean and Castiel find Ed's decomposing body. They go to Ed's home, where Sam and Dean find a roomful of dead bodies that all look like Ed Bright - indicating that they are dealing with some form of Shapeshifter. One of the beings that looks like Ed is still alive, it's Ed's friend Marshall Todd. He tells them about the "woman in white" who passed them outside the bar.
At the bar, they discover numerous dead bodies. On examination, Dean finds that the dead are monsters - one has Vampire teeth as well as the spike of a Wraith. Dean dubs these hybrids Jefferson Starships, and Bobby says that it seems like a fever killed them all. Before they can leave, three policemen appear and take Castiel, Bobby, and Sam into custody while Dean hides behind a counter. When they arrive at the station, Sam sees that the policemen's eyes glow like a shapeshifter's in the security feed and realizes that the police are actually Jefferson Starships. He headbutts the creature that is holding him and Dean appears in time to rescue them. Dean kills one, Castiel kills one, and the third is kept alive - bound in silver - for questioning.
In a cell at the station, Sam and Dean find two orphaned boys named Joe and Ryan Silver. They conduct tests on the boys and then, despite Castiel's objections, leave to drive them to their uncle's home in nearby Merritt. In their absence, Castiel interrogates one of the Jefferson Starships and learns Eve's location - the diner they first visited when they arrived in Grants Pass.
With Bobby and Castiel waiting outside, the brothers enter the diner and discover that they are surrounded by hybrids. Eve herself confronts them in the guise of a waitress and makes them surrender their weapons. Eve detects Phoenix ash in the shotguns, so she hands them over to one her children and orders their immediate disposal. She then explains to Sam and Dean the reason she's on Earth and what she hopes to achieve. To emphasize her point, she transforms into the likeness of Mary Winchester and tells them that every action she's taken has been because of "a mother's love."
Eve goes on to explain that she had been satisfied with the balance between mankind and monsters, but since her children started being captured and tortured by Crowley, she had decided to rise up from Purgatory and retaliate. Dean is quick to point out that her arrival was pointless, as Crowley had already been dealt with months ago. Eve is unconvinced, however, and informs them that Crowley is indeed alive and in hiding, but is still carrying out his search for Purgatory. She explains that Crowley is not after Purgatory itself, but rather the souls that dwell within it. Monster souls, like those of humans, are very powerful and are essential for fuelling a war machine capable of untold power. For what purpose Crowley wants this power, she does not reveal, but to cripple his plans Eve intends to turn the whole world into monsters so that she can "see how hot his hell burns when all your souls come to me." She has been using the town as a test-bed to create a new type of monster which she wants to use to convert all of humanity. Several of her early experiments resulted in failure as the creatures died prematurely.
Eve then informs them of the "perfect monster" she has created in the form of Ryan Silver and of the mass-infection that they inadvertently helped spread. Her bodyguards bring Castiel and Bobby into the diner, and Eve informs Castiel that he can't use his powers because they're being halted by her age advantage. She offers Sam and Dean the chance to work for her in capturing Crowley. Dean refuses to work with a monster, however, and tells Eve to "bite me." She obliges, but staggers back upon tasting phoenix ash in his blood. Dean reveals that he ingested some ash with a shot of whisky, and Eve chokes and burns from the inside out before falling to the floor, dead. The monsters in the diner attack all at once, but with Eve no longer suppressing Castiel's powers, he releases a devastating blast of white light that kills all the monsters in the diner.
Castiel then teleports them all to Joe and Ryan's uncle's house to stop the children, who have already murdered their uncle, only to discover both kids dead and traces of sulfur; the work of a demon. Castiel later returns to the diner and observes Eve's body and the corpses of her children before being met by Crowley, who expresses his dissatisfaction with having to clean up after the angel's messes.
