 +
After [[Bobby]]'s death in [[7.10 Death's Door]], [[Dean]] and [[Sam]] are overcome by grief. They don't do anything for a week, and then two weeks pass in which Dean does nothing but focus on deciphering the numbers that Bobby wrote on Sam's hand just before he died: 45489. He covers the walls in [[Rufus]]'s cabin with notes and stories about [[Dick Roman]], the leader of the [[Leviathans]]. After those three weeks, Sam, who has found Bobby's contact book, asks Dean if they should let any of Bobby's friends know what happened to him. Dean doesn't want to, and just as they're arguing about it, Bobby's phone rings. Dean refuses to answer it, so Sam picks it up and hears the voice of a young girl, who says that her dad told her to call Bobby Singer specifically. When Sam says that he's not available, she hangs up.

It's a standoff until they both cut themselves to prove that they aren't Leviathans (Leviathans bleed black goo), then Frank leads Dean out of the house and they drive to another location, where Frank has set up an RV with all of his computer and surveillance equipment. Frank tells Dean that the Leviathans are on to him since he's been researching Dick Roman and the numbers that Dean gave him, so he's had to go further underground. Dean reminds Frank that he paid him $15,000 for his services and asks him what he's learned about the numbers.

After trying all of the other 6-digit possibilities, Frank has found that the numbers 454893, or 45"4' 89"3', are GPS coordinates that lead to a field in Wisconsin. The land was recently purchased by Wellman, Inc., a subsidiary of [[Dick Roman| Richard Roman]] Enterprises. They decide to travel there and set up surveillance, but when they arrive they find security cameras already in place. They leave and, once back at his RV, Frank hacks into the cameras. Lee tells him that the vetala's victims tend to die after 3 or 4 feedings, and that he's already been fed on 3 times. When Sally shows up intending to feed on Lee again, Sam makes her angry so that she'll feed on him instead, prolonging Lee's life.

Dean is forced to take her along, and in the car Dean reveals that Sam and Lee were wrong in their assumption that vetalas are loners: they usually hunt in pairs. Krissy asks him how he knows things about the vetala that Sam didn't, and Dean reveals that he hunted two vetala when Sam was at Stanford. Krissy is surprised that Sam went to college, and Dean suggests that she could, too.

They're at a stand-off when Krissy, pretending to give a tearful goodbye to her father, pulls a silver knife from her sleeve and turns to stab Sally, killing her. Dean and Marlene are facing off when Krissy turns to free Sam, and Sam uses her knife to kill Marlene.

They're leaving the hospital when Krissy runs out to say goodbye to Dean. She tells him that they are leaving the life and that she might even go to Stanford, like Sam. As they drive away, Dean and Sam are satisfied with the way the job went, but both are battling their own demons. Sam admits that he's not okay, but that he just wants to work. Dean agrees that they should focus on work and bringing down Dick Roman. When Sam turns and curls up to sleep, Dean stares at the road ahead and, perhaps calling to mind Frank's advice, tries to smile.

He references John's journal, which describes vetala as venomous loners that like to feed on their victims over a few days. Eager to find Krissy's father before it's too late, he heads to the same diner that Lee disappeared from. Because he's only expecting one vetala, however, he quickly falls prey to the vetala Marlene, who's posing as a waitress, and her partner, the sex worker Sally.

When Dean wakes up, Frank tells him that he's been asleep for 36 hours. While he was out, Frank watched the field on the camera feeds and noted the appearance of Amanda Willer, an employee of Dick Roman, and a crew surveying the land. With nothing to do but watch and wait, Frank tells an impatient Dean to go kill something to blow off steam. Dean is frustrated, though, and Frank tells him that he has two options: (1) quit hunting or (2) fake a smile and be a professional.

After their heart to heart, Dean checks his voicemail and, when he hears Sam's description of the vetala, remarks that Sam isn't right about something. He's still listening to it when he gets a call and he switches over, expecting Sam. Instead, it's Krissy, who's calling because she hasn't heard from Sam.

When Sam wakes up, he's tied to a chair and his neck is bloody. Lee Chambers is tied up as well, but very near death, and there are other men slumped in chairs around the room, dead. Sam tells Lee that he's a friend of Bobby's and that Krissy contacted him and is okay. Lee tells him that the vetala's victims tend to die after 3 or 4 feedings, and that he's already been fed on 3 times. When Sally shows up intending to feed on Lee again, Sam makes her angry so that she'll feed on him instead, prolonging Lee's life.

Meanwhile, Dean arrives at the Chambers' apartment and meets Krissy. She reveals that she knows about her father's hunts, and then insists on helping him look for her father, going so far as to hold a gun on him. Dean knocks the gun out of her hand, but she has burned all her fathers papers relating to the vetala hunt - after she memorized them. Dean is forced to take her along, and in the car Dean reveals that Sam and Lee were wrong in their assumption that vetalas are loners: they usually hunt in pairs. Krissy asks him how he knows things about the vetala that Sam didn't, and Dean reveals that he hunted two vetala when Sam was at Stanford. Krissy is surprised that Sam went to college, and Dean suggests that she could, too.

They arrive at the truck stop where men have been disappearing, and, as they watch, the sex worker Sally leads a trucker behind his rig. Dean doesn't pay it much attention, but Krissy notices Marlene getting in the cab before driving it away. They follow the truck, and, because Krissy is determined to make this her first hunt, Dean cuffs her to the steering wheel. Before he goes, he makes her give up her lock-pick and then goes into the building where Sam and Lee are being held.

Once inside, Dean hits Sally with a metal bar and goes after Marlene. He's about to kill her with his silver knife when Krissy, who's used a bobby pin to slip the handcuffs, tries to run to her bound father. Sally rouses and grabs her before she can get to him, then makes Dean drop his knife by threatening to kill Krissy. They're at a stand-off when Krissy, pretending to give a tearful goodbye to her father, pulls a silver knife from her sleeve and turns to stab Sally, killing her. Dean and Marlene are facing off when Krissy turns to free Sam, and Sam uses her knife to kill Marlene.

Sam and Dean visit Lee at the hospital and advise him to quit hunting. Lee protests that he got into the life for his family, and Dean says that he should get out for the same reason. They're leaving the hospital when Krissy runs out to say goodbye to Dean. She tells him that they are leaving the life and that she might even go to Stanford, like Sam. As they drive away, Dean and Sam are satisfied with the way the job went, but both are battling their own demons. Sam admits that he's not okay, but that he just wants to work. Dean agrees that they should focus on work and bringing down Dick Roman. When Sam turns and curls up to sleep, Dean stares at the road ahead and, perhaps calling to mind Frank's advice, tries to smile.
