|Powers= Can kill [[Angels]], [[Hellhounds]], [[Demons]], [[Reapers]], [[Nephilim]], and Humans and [[Werewolves]].

Angel blades are the primary choice of weapon for angels. The existence of the weapon is revealed when [[Uriel]] first attempts to kill [[Castiel]].<ref name="four16">[[4.16 On the Head of a Pin]]</ref> In subsequent episodes many [[angel]]s carry the blades, including [[Castiel]] himself.<ref name="five01">[[5.01 Sympathy for the Devil]]</ref> [[Demon]]s such as [[Meg]], [[Crowley]] and [[Abaddon]] have also taken to carrying these blades<ref name="seven21">[[7.21 Reading Is Fundamental]]</ref><ref name="eight07">[[8.07 A Little Slice of Kevin]]</ref><ref name="nine10">[[9.10 Road Trip]]</ref> as well as Sam and Dean.<ref name="nine01">[[9.01 I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here]]</ref><ref name="nine02">[[9.02 Devil May Care]]</ref><ref name="nine03">[[9.03 I'm No Angel]]</ref>

The weapon could be described as a long dagger or a short swordwith a tri-blade pattern. It can be used to kill [[angel]]s, [[demon]]s, [[hellhound]]s, [[reaper]]s, and regular [[Nephilim]] ([[Jack Kline]] being the product of an [[archangel]] makes him invulnerable to angel blades). It was revealed by [[Castiel]] that all angel blades have been touched by [[God]], whether God actually created them is unknown. An angel blade can also drain an angel of their power, as shown with Castiel when he is wounded by [[Rachel]]'s blade, which causes him to lose most of his angelic powerenergy to the point of hindering his time travel ability. It is also an efficient tool for torturing an angel as shown when [[Crowley]] tortures [[Samandriel]] with one. It was shown that angel blades briefly give off a blue spark of light when they clash with one another.<ref name="six03">[[6.03 The Third Man]]</ref>

Although [[Uriel]] stated that the only thing capable of killing an [[angel]] is another angel,possibly because these blades were exclusive to angels at the time.<ref name="four16" /> it seems that the The blades are still effective in the hands of a human or [[demon]]. Castiel gives his blade to the Winchesters to use on [[Anna]],<ref name="five13">[[5.13 The Song Remains the Same]]</ref> and [[Dean Winchester]] kills [[Zachariah]] with one as well<ref name="five18">[[5.18 Point of No Return]]</ref> and later another angel to save [[Gadreel]].<ref name="nine01" /> [[Sam]] is later able to use Castiel's blade to kill two [[demon]]s.<ref name="eight10">[[8.10 Torn and Frayed]]</ref> During an angelic fight, Rachel manages to pierce Castiel in the chest with her blade, but he survives, and he kills her.<ref name="six18">[[6.18 Frontierland]]</ref> [[Meg]] is later able to use one to kill [[hellhound]]s,<ref name="six10">[[6.10 Caged Heat]]</ref> [[Hester]]<ref name="seven21" /> and a demon with a her own blade.<ref name="eight17">[[8.17 Goodbye Stranger]]</ref>

During a fight with Lucifer, Castiel manages to stab him with an angel blade, but Lucifer is completely unharmed. He is similarly unharmed by being shot with a hundred bullets made from melted-down angel blades.<ref name="twelve23" /> Castiel's later attempt to kill a weakened Lucifer with an angel blade to the abdomen likewise failed, but it did cause him harm.<ref name="thirteen12">[[13.12 Various & Sundry Villains]]</ref> However, [[Asmodeus]] believed that an angel blade to the heart could kill Lucifer in his weakened state though this was never tested.<ref name="thirteen13">[[13.13 Devil's Bargain]]</ref> During an encounter with [[Raphael]], Dean and [[Bobby Singer]] attempted to attack the archangel by throwing an angel blade at him, but Raphael caught the blade before it could make contact.<ref name="six22">[[6.22 The Man Who Knew Too Much]]</ref> However, though archangels can't be killed with the blades, they can have their [[grace]] extracted using them like a regular angel.<ref name="thirteen07">[[13.07 War of the Worlds]]</ref><ref name="thirteen21">[[13.21 Beat the Devil]]</ref> An attempt by [[Miriam]] to kill [[Jack Kline]] shows that [[nephilim]] sired by archangels are also immune to angel blades.<ref name="thirteen01">[[13.01 Lost and Found]]</ref> Additionally, while angel blades are capable of killing demons, they cannot kill the [[Princes of Hell]] nor do they appear to cause them any real harm.<ref name="twelve12">[[12.12 Stuck in the Middle (With You)]]</ref>

Angel blades can kill at least some species of monsters. Castiel was able to kill a [[werewolf]] with an angel blade to the heart during a regular hunt.<ref name="thirteen23">[[13.23 Let the Good Times Roll]]</ref> He later killed a [[djinn]] with several stabs to the chest from his angel blade.<ref name="fifteen06">[[15.06 Golden Time]]</ref>

While facing down Lucifer in the [[Alternate Universealternate universe]], Dean uses a machine gun equip equipped with bullets made from discarded angel blades which that universes Bobby Singer lent to him. The bullets are able to temporarily stun Lucifer, but not kill him. After the gun jams Lucifer is able to take it from Dean and break it.

In [[the Bad Place]], after [[Kaia Nieves]] is killed by [[Kaia Nieves (Bad Place)|a hooded figure]], the Winchesters draw angel blades to defend themselves. However, the arrival of the [[the KaijuForest Troll]] forces the Winchesters back through the [[portal]] to their universe without ever fighting.

Upon the entire bar being possessed by demons, Castiel drops his angel blade from his sleeve and attacks -- but is quickly overpowered and subdued. Used as bait to lure [[Sam]] by the demon [[Kipling]], Sam, [[Mary]], Bobby, Maggie and [[Jack]] go on a rescue mission, bringing angel blades with them. In the ensuing fight Mary is able to kill a demon, and is later saved from another by Maggiewith an angel blade she had handed the nervous young woman and instructed her in using. ===[[14.03 The Scar]]===While hunting down [[Dark Kaia]] in the woods of Sioux Falls, Dean has an angel blade affixed to the outside of his backpack. ===[[14.09 The Spear]]===While hunting [[Dark Kaia]], [[Castiel]] arms himself with an angel blade, but is prevented from attacking by Dean. Later, Castiel attacks [[Michael (Apocalypse World)|Michael]] with an angel blade, but is easily beaten and disarmed. ===[[14.10 Nihilism]]===After capturing [[Michael (Apocalypse World)|Michael]], [[Jack Kline|Jack]] retrieves a dropped angel blade from the floor. ===[[14.11 Damaged Goods]]===Armed with an angel blade taken from the Winchesters, [[Nick]] tortures and kills demons for information on the location of [[Abraxas]]. With one such demon, he stabs her in the eye with the blade as part of his torture despite her willingly talking to get everything she knows about Abraxas and his capture by [[Mary Winchester]] before eventually killing her. During the confrontation with Abraxas, Nick arms himself with his angel blade, using it to break the [[devil's trap]] after the Winchesters arrive to stop him. After Abraxas is distracted by Dean's attempted [[exorcism]], Nick shoves Abraxas to the ground from behind and stabs Abraxas in the chest with his angel blade, killing the demon and avenging the murders of his family. After killing Abraxas, Nick swings the angel blade at Mary, only to be shot in the leg by [[Donna Hanscum]], stopping the attack. ===[[14.13 Lebanon]]===After discovering the alternate timeline [[Zachariah]] and [[Castiel]], Dean draws an angel blade to fight his best friend but is quickly disarmed. As Dean and Castiel fight, Zachariah tortures Sam for information, but makes the mistake of getting in Sam's face while taunting him. Taking advantage of Zachariah's close proximity, Sam draws an angel blade and stabs Zachariah in the heart with it, killing him. Sam is subsequently disarmed by Castiel, but manages to [[angel banishing sigil|banish him]] instead. ===[[14.14 Ouroboros]]===After [[Michael (Apocalypse World)|Michael]] escapes from Dean's mind and possesses [[Rowena]], Castiel arms himself with his angel blade, but is quickly disarmed when Michael begins torturing Sam, Dean and Castiel. As he watches helplessly, Jack pulls a nearby duffle bag closer to him and removes an angel blade to face off with Michael, but loses it when Michael hits him with an energy blast. ===[[14.15 Peace of Mind]]=== ===[[14.16 Don't Go in the Woods]]===After telling [[Max (Lebanon)|Max]], [[Stacy]] and [[Eliot]] about [[demons]] and [[angels]], Jack shows them an angel blade as a method of demon and angel killing. After trying and failing to properly throw the angel blade, Jack spends hours trying before resorting to his powers. Jack then plays with the angel blade using [[telekinesis]], freaking out his new friends and accidentally stabbing Stacy. As Eliot calls 911, Jack removes the angel blade and [[healing|heals]] Stacy's wound. However, Jack's display and Stacy's near death causes his new friends to order Jack to stay away from them. ===[[14.17 Game Night]]===After being confronted by two [[demons]] working with [[Nick]] to resurrect [[Lucifer]], Dean draws an angel blade to fight them. Though one demon nearly kills Dean with Dean's own angel blade, Dean is able to turn it around on him and drive the blade into the demon's chest, killing him. Dean takes the angel blade with him as he runs after horn of the [[Impala]], honked by Sam to get his attention. ===[[14.19 Jack in the Box]]===After [[Castiel]] demands entry to [[Heaven]] against [[Dumah]]'s orders, [[Eremiel]] draws an angel blade to stop him but loses their fight and is forced to allow Castiel into Heaven. During Castiel's confrontation with Dumah in Heaven, she threatens to end [[John Winchester|John]] and [[Mary Winchester]]'s peaceful shared Heaven with a snap of her fingers if he doesn't comply with her. As she finishes her threat, Castiel draws his angel blade and kills Dumah with it before running off to find [[Jack Kline]]. ===[[14.20 Moriah]]===As an army of [[zombie]]s approach the Winchesters and [[Castiel]], Castiel draws his angel blade to defend himself with. ===[[15.01 Back and to the Future]]===[[Castiel]] wields his angel blade against the [[zombies]] as well as his [[smiting]] ability. After [[Belphegor]] possesses [[Jack]]'s corpse, Castiel threatens the [[demon]] with his angel blade in an attempt to get Belphegor out of Jack. With Belphegor claiming to be able to help, Dean tells Castiel to back down and if Belphegor can't help them, he can stab the demon then. After Belphegor needs his blood for a spell, Castiel cuts his hand with the angel blade to provide it to the demon. ===[[15.03 The Rupture]]===After being attacked by [[Ardat]], [[Arthur Ketch]] grabs an angel blade from his clothes, but is quickly overpowered by the demon. While escorting [[Belphegor]] into [[Hell]], [[Castiel]] arms himself with his angel blade, killing Malfayan with it. When Ardat attacks Castiel and [[Belphegor]], she is also armed with an angel blade. While Ardat is distracted revealing the truth about Belphegor to Castiel, Belphegor stabs Ardat in the back with another angel blade, killing her. ===[[15.05 Proverbs 17:3]]===After being confronted by a resurrected [[Lilith]], Dean draws an angel blade while Sam draws the [[demon-killing knife]]. Lilith comments that Dean upgraded upon seeing the angel blade. ===[[15.06 Golden Time]]===When confronted by a [[djinn]], [[Castiel]] draws his angel blade and kills the monster with several stabs to the chest. ===[[15.09 The Trap]]===While preparing the spell to trap [[God]], [[Castiel]] uses his angel blade to cut his palm in order to get his blood for the spell. ===[[15.11 The Gamblers]]===When a resurrected [[Jack]] goes after the last of the [[Grigori]], he arms himself with an angel blade. He uses the blade to kill the grigori Sariel and cut out his heart to consume it. On the trail of another grigori, Jack follows [[Kabaiel]] to an abandoned warehouse, where he is captured. While rescuing Jack from Kabaiel, Castiel fights and kills the fallen angel using his angel blade. When trying to draw out [[Fortuna]], Dean uses an angel blade to hold her son [[Pax]] hostage. Fortuna admits that Dean probably could kill Pax with the angel blade as his father was human, but threatens Dean into releasing him instead.

* Angel blades, while rarer in the earlier seasons, gain more prevalence in the later seasons, particularly after the revelation that they can kill demons as well as angels. The revelation that [[Asa Fox]] had one caused the Winchesters to comment that he was a serious hunter. In later seasons, angel blades have mainly taken the place of [[Demon-Killing Knife|Ruby's Knifeknife]] as the Winchesters' main demon -killing weapon.* In season 13, angel blades are the only weapons used by the Winchesters to kill demons. [[Ruby's Knife]] knife is only used again by either of the Winchesters against demons in [[14.01 Stranger in a Strange Land]].* While initially only a weapon used by angels and the Winchesters, angel blades have become to be used by other characters in later seasons, including demons and other hunters such as [[Asa Fox]] and [[Eileen Leahy]]. The discovery that Asa had one caused the Winchesters to comment that he was a serious [[hunter]].* As seen in [[14.13 Lebanon]], the Winchesters have taken to carrying angel blades in sheaths on their belts.* When Castiel kills [[Dumah]] in Heaven in [[14.19 Jack in the Box]], his angel blade has no blood on it when he removes it from her body, possibly because Dumah was killed in Heaven and not on Earth.
