6.02 Two and a Half Men

Sam and Dean, knowing that children are being taken by some type of monster, manage to rescue one baby. While in a market getting supplies, a woman approaches them and offers help when the baby starts crying. She asks what the child is called; Dean says "Bobby" as Sam replies "John," and they quickly cover by naming the child Bobby John.

Dean spots retinal flare in the woman's eyes on the security cameras and realizes that she is a shapeshifter. The shapeshifter tries to steal the baby, but Sam and Dean manage to get away, only to find out that the baby itself is a shapeshifter when is changes from a Caucasian baby to an African American one based on an image the baby sees on a pack of diapers.

They take the baby to the Campbells' compound, where Samuel decides they should raise it themselves. According to Samuel, Christian Campbell and his wife, Arlene, have been trying for a baby. Christian agrees to take in and raise the baby shapeshifter, but the hunters are then attacked by the Alpha Shapeshifter, who is immune to gunshots, a silver knife in the heart, and elephant tranquilizers. The Alpha kills Mark Campbell, overpowers the others, and takes the child.

It is later revealed that Samuel is collecting monsters for Crowley's prison, so his actual motives in taking in the baby are questionable. The Alpha is eventually taken by Crowley, who reminds it that his prison "has a nursery." Bobby John may have been one of the babies used as leverage. Castiel says he will destroy all the monsters in the prison afterwards, which Crowley later confirms he did, so Bobby John may be dead.

Trivia

  • Bobby John's name is a combination of John Winchester's and Bobby Singer's first names. Considering how Bobby is seen as a father figure after John's death, it is possible that Sam and Dean were both trying to name him after their "father."
