History
Bobby's guilt over Karen's death caused her to inhabit his dreams. She is later resurrected by Death and turns into a zombie and he has to kill her again, which causes him more grief.
Bobby has known the Winchesters since the late 1908s1980s. By 1989, John was leaving the boys in Bobby's care. In 1991, he gave an 8-year-old Sam an amulet as a Christmas present for his father, which he eventually gave to Dean.. One at least one occasion, he took the brothers deer hunting. John Winchester and Bobby were not necessarily on good terms -- Dean comments that the last time Bobby saw John he nearly "filled him with buckshot." It is to Bobby's place that Sam and Dean go to grieve after John's death. After this Bobby's relationship with the Winchesters grows even closer, and he becomes both father figure and friend.
When Sam and Dean try to go after Lilith without him, Bobby tells them, "Family don't end with blood, boy." and more than once Dean tells Bobby he's like a father to him. Bobby has listed Dean as his official next of kin. In 2009, Bobby is paralyzed from the waist down after stabbing himself with Ruby's knife to overcome his own demonic possession when Meg orders him to kill Dean.
After arriving in Heaven, Bobby enjoys his new life in his Heaven which is a replica of his old house until Sam and Castiel contact him for help with breaking Metatron out of prison in hopes of removing the Mark of Cain from Dean. Bobby, though he feels himself rusty, helps and is punished in an unknown manner for it, though he leaves Sam a note in which he states that it was worth it. He is subsequently locked up in Heaven's jail for his actions.
Five years later, after dying for the final time, Dean is reunited with Bobby in Heaven. Bobby reveals that Jack released him from prison and reshaped Heaven to be a much better place with Castiel's help. Bobby describes the new Heaven to Dean and tells him about Dean's parents and Rufus as the two men share a beer outside of Harvelle's Roadhouse before Dean goes on drive through Heaven in the Impala.
* For the Apocalypse World version of Bobby see Bobby (Apocalypse World).
After the British Men of Letters reveal that they have the Colt but no bullets, Sam tells them he knows the recipe to create more from a friend of his. Mary Winchester realizes that Sam means Bobby which he confirms.

15.20 Carry On
:"That kid of yours before he went... wherever, made some changes here. Busted my ass out. And then he -- Well, he set some things right. Tore down all the walls up here. Heaven ain't just reliving your golden oldies anymore. It's what it always should've been. Everyone happy. Everyone together. Rufus lives about five miles that way -- with Aretha. Thought she'd have better taste. And your mom and dad... they got a place over yonder. It ain't just Heaven, Dean. It's the Heaven you deserve. And we've been waiting for you."After dying during a vampire hunt, Dean arrives in Heaven where he's greeted by Bobby outside of Harvelle's Roadhouse. Dean is surprised and asks what memory he's in, but Bobby reveals that it's real. Dean doesn't believe it since the last he heard, Bobby was locked up in Heaven's prison for helping to breakout break out Metatron. Bobby explains that Jack made some changes in Heaven, busted Bobby out of jail and "set some things right" by tearing down all of the walls in Heaven. Heaven is now what it always should've been with everyone happy and together. Bobby tells Dean about Rufus, John and Mary and states that its it's not just Heaven, but the Heaven that Dean deserves and everyone has been waiting for him. Dean is surprised that Jack did all of that and Bobby tells him that Castiel helped.
As Dean and Bobby drink beers together, Dean notes that the beer tastes like the first one Dean had with his father, which, while awful, was still fantastic. After Dean calls it almost perfect, Bobby reassures him that Sam will be along and that time in Heaven is different and Dean has everything he could ever want, need, or dream. Bobby wonders what Dean is going to do now , and spotting the Impala parked nearby, Dean decides to go for a drive. Bobby tells Dean to have fun and watches with a smile as he drives off.
