History
When the Apocalypse was looming, Crowley betrayed much of Hell's hierarchy by providing the Colt to be used by Dean Winchester in an attempt to kill Lucifer. He additionally provided the location of Death to Dean, which allowed for the collection of the final key to re-open Lucifer's Cage, which would later allow Lucifer to be re-imprisoned.
Soon after Lucifer's imprisonment, Crowley sought out the Prince of Hell, Ramiel, to take the throne. Ramiel, however, refused the crown and offered Crowley the kingship, which he quickly accepted. After taking charge of Hell, Crowley transformed it into place where torture is exemplified by endless queuing in line. Despite not being a Lucifer loyalist, he was seen using the Devil's Trident as a symbol, and also was pictured on painting on a wall in the halls of Hell dressed in a uniform with it as an insignia. During his first year of rule, Crowley proposed to Castiel the plan to locate Purgatory and share the power of the souls of the monsters there. Through the resurrected Samuel Campbell, he employed hunters, including Sam, to capture monsters that he hoped would lead them to Purgatory. For most of his reign as King of Hell, Crowley ruled from Needham Asylum on Earth.
