In his human life, Crowley was a 17th century Scottish tailor named Fergus Roderick MacLeod from Canisbay, Scotland who sold his [[soul]] for three more inches in length on his penis, to, as he claimed -- hit "double digits."<ref name="six04" </> His mother, [[Rowena]], was a [[witch]] and taught him a few things about witchcraft, like how to make and use [[hex bags]], prior to abandoning him.<ref>[[8.22 Clip Show]]</ref> Crowley never knew his father, only learning hundreds of years later that he was conceived in a winter solstice orgy, however Rowena would eventually reveal the truth that his father was a wealthy man in their village whom she had an affair with, and upon Fergus' birth simply abandoned the two of them to be with his real family. Fergus had a son, [[Gavin MacLeod]], whom Crowley indicated that he "...[I] loathe the little bastard." Gavin would be summoned in [[ghost]] form by[[Bobby Singer]], and reciprocate the feeling, and revealed that he betrayed personal information on Crowley to Bobby.<ref name="six04" /> Dialogue suggests that Fergus died 291 years before [[9.21 King of the Damned]] took place,<ref name="nine21">[[9.21 King of the Damned]]</ref> which would put the year of his death at around 1723 and his age at his time of death at around 62, taking into consideration his 1661 birthdate.<ref name="six04" />

Crowley was a Scottish human before he was a demon. The other demons call him Lucky the Leprechaun, a description suited to an Irishman. While he He says his current meatsuit belonged to a literary agent from New York, and speaks with an British accent. However, when Crowley gives an impassioned speech after Sam saves him from [[Abaddon]]'s assault in [[8.23 Sacrifice]], Crowley's accent slips out of his British accent into an American one. It happened again in [[12.12 Stuck in the Middle (With You)]] when [[Ramiel]] told him to take the crown after declining the offer.

Crowley finds Dean and the two have a drink together. Dean schools Crowley about the meaning of family - its not whether they are a blood relative or not, but how they treat you that matters. Crowley reveals to dean Dean that Rowena knows the Mark of Cain is a curse. Crowley forces Rowena to leave, stating that the only reason she is clinging to him is he is being useful to her. Rowena then packs and leaves her son's lair.

Belphegor said informs everyone that when [[Lilith]] started sending her demons to Earth, she created [[Lilith's Crook|a horn]] that could allow her to summon all of Hell's lost creatures back into Hell to maintain control of demonkind. However, she never needed to use it and kept it in [[Lilith's Chamber|her chamber]], which has been sealed for ages. He also said reveals that Crowley never used it either, instead employing a more bureaucratic take on damnation when he took over, even though he never liked spending any time there or with the demons.

Castiel and Belphegor make their way to Lilith's Chamber in Hell and recover the horn. However, the demon [[Ardat]] makes her way into the chamber and reveals explains to Castiel that she has been watching Belphegor for centuries. He , and how he has been searching for an opportunity to take over Hell, and all the while working under Lilith and Crowley to hide his ulterior motives. After Belphegor kills Ardat, he reveals shows his true colors to Castiel, saying that Lilith and Crowley are nothing. His true plan was to use the horn to absorb all the [[hell Hell ghosts]] and demons imprisoned in the barrier into unto himself, making himself akin to a god. He starts blowing the horn and absorbing the damned souls into himself, but Castiel manages to make his way towards Belphegor and smites him, at the cost of destroying the horn and reducing Jack's corpse to a skeleton. [[Rowena ]] is able to finish the job by absorbing and containing all the demons and hell Hell ghosts into herself and jumping into Hell as [[Portal|the rupture]] closes.

Rowena is revealed to be the new Queen of Hell, having taken the throne after sacrificing her life to save the world. While talking to Dean and Castiel, she tells them that there are many things she regrets back when she was alive that still haunt her in death, including how she treated Crowley (whom she calls Fergus). She admonishes them to fix their broken relationship friendship before it's too late.
