With the help of Sam Wesson from the IT Department, he burns the remains of P.T. Sandover, dispatching his spirit. Dean is resistant to Wesson's suggestion that they chase ghosts full time, insisting that it would be impractical and unpleasant, and that "You don't want to go fighting ghosts without any health insurance."

In the end, Dean decides that his job is not what he is cut out for, and that hunting ghosts may be his calling. He resigns, at which point his boss Mr. Adler is revealed to be Zachariah, who restores Dean Smith's memories of being Dean Winchester.
