History

Dr. Eleanor Visyak is a "Purgatory native" who is around 900-years-old. She was released on March 10, 1937 by a spell performed by H.P. Lovecraft and a group of dinner guests. She possessed the body of his maid, Eleanor, who had a 9-year-old son named Westborough. In modern times she had been living as a professor of medieval studies at San Francisco University and had a romantic past with Bobby Singer. Eleanor spent the last 75 years of her life ensuring that the door to Purgatory would never be opened again.

Episodes

H.P. Lovecraft's maid Eleanor and her son in 1935.

6.12 Like a Virgin

At Bobby's suggestion, Dean visits Dr. Visyak to gain information about dragons and how to kill them. She has a dragon killing sword - the Sword of Bruncvik (or Braunschweig) -- in her basement, which is stuck in a large rock. Dean extracts it using plastic explosives, breaking the sword in the process.

6.21 Let It Bleed

While visiting Westborough who saw his mother Eleanor possessed by a creature from Purgatory in 1937, Bobby sees a photo of the woman and realizes that it is the woman he knows as Eleanor Visyak. He finds her in a cabin - one of her 'safe houses' - and tells her he knows who she really is. She confirms his suspicions, but denies that she killed H.P. Lovecraft. Bobby warns her that Castiel is looking for her, and asks for the information about how to open a door to Purgatory. She refuses to tell him, and also rejects his offer of protection. As she leaves the cabin, Castiel appears and takes her.

6.22 The Man Who Knew Too Much

Bobby, Sam and Dean find Eleanor in an alley, fatally wounded. She tells them she was tortured by Crowley and then Castiel, and that she finally revealed the spell to access to Purgatory, which involves the blood of a virgin, the blood from a Purgatory native which are used to draw a collection of sigils. A spell is then recited beneath a lunar eclipse. Eleanor dies before she can reveal where Crowley and Castiel are located.

Trivia

"She is a similar kind of creature to Eve, actually. She's a creature that originated in Purgatory. She is what came through the portal when Lovecraft and his cohorts did their little spell back in the day. She's a little less powerful, she was not as high on the food chain over there, but she is extremely old, extremely powerful, and not of this Earth."
