Esper was an angel who worked for Naomi in Heaven's intelligence section.

Esper and Ion are sent by Naomi to find Castiel, who is hiding the angel tablet. They were unable to find him previously because he had been continually moving to different Biggerson's Restaurants in order to throw them off. Under orders from Naomi they murder everyone in the Santa Fe Biggerson's to lure Castiel back. There, Naomi begins to interrogate Castiel but Crowley shows up and, with a gun filled with bullets made from a melted down angel blade, shoots Esper in the neck and kills him.
