After killing Dick Roman, the gorilla-wolves were the first creatures that Dean and Castiel encounter in Purgatory.
8.02 What's Up, Tiger Mommy?
During one of Dean's Purgatory flashbacks, he remembers tracking down Castiel with the vampire Benny Lafitte, and during their reunion coins the term "gorilla-wolves" to describe the creatures he and Cas first encountered in Purgatory.
