Soon after [[Castiel]] declares declared himself [[God]], [[Sam]] begins hallucinating. At first it is simply hearing Lucifer call his name and then hallucinating meat hooks and chains hanging from [[Bobby]]'s basement, until finally he sees "[[Lucifer]]," who tells Sam that his escape from [[Lucifer's Cage|the Cage]] was all an elaborate torture, and he is still locked away in [[Hell]].

* "Hallucifer " is a fan-created nickname for [[Sam]]'s hallucinations of [[Lucifer]] during season seven. Occasionally fans will spell it "Halucifer." It originated in the LJ community from [http://ontd-spnparty.livejournal.com ontd_spnparty]'s [http://ontd-spnparty.livejournal.com/452917.html#comments 7x01 Party Post.]* A subconscious manifestation of Lucifer also appeared to [[Jack Kline]] in [[Season 14]].
