History

The Winchester men have a long history with holy water. They have done their fair share of flinging it at demons. In many cases, it is one Winchester wielding holy water against another Winchester as a test. Here is a look at all those times:

Episodes

1.04 Phantom Traveler

Dean squirts the co-pilot of Flight 424 with holy water, who was possessed by the Airplane Demon, while Sam exorcizes him.

1.22 Devil's Trap

When Sam and Dean find John at Sunrise Apartments in Jefferson City, Missouri after he was abducted by demons, Sam splashes him with holy water to confirm that John is not possessed. However, it's revealed that he was possessed by Azazel, who is immune to holy water.

2.14 Born Under a Bad Sign

After Dean finds Sam holding Jo at knife point, Dean splashes Sam with holy water to confirm that he is possessed by a demon. Meg, in Sam's meatsuit, escapes and heads to Bobby's house, where Bobby discovers that Sam is possessed when he reveals Sam's beer is laced with holy water. Later, after Bobby secures the possessed Sam, Dean splashes Sam again to try to get the demon to talk.

3.03 Bad Day at Black Rock

On Gordon Walker's orders, Kubrick and Creedy capture Sam. They splash Sam with holy water, believing that Sam was helping the demons who opened the Devil's Gate, and they learned about Sam's psychic powers from Gordon.

4.01 Lazarus Rising

Upon Dean's return from Hell, a suspicious Bobby splashes Dean with holy water to determine if Dean is a demon, despite him proving he's human by slicing his own arm with a silver knife.

4.16 On the Head of a Pin

Dean tortures Alastair by soaking his face with goblets of holy water.

4.19 Jump the Shark

Dean tests Adam for demonic possession by swapping out tap water for holy water from his flask in the diner where they meet. However, he drinks it like normal. But the holy water doesn't work because he's revealed to be a ghoul.

5.02 Good God, Y'All

When Sam and Dean arrive in River Pass, Colorado, Ellen splashes Dean with holy water to check if he is a demon. Later, Jo splashes Sam, twice, because she and Rufus think he's a demon. It's later revealed that the horseman of War is making everyone in town hallucinate, making them think they're seeing demons and causing them to kill each other.

5.17 99 Problems

In Blue Earth, Minnesota, Baby gets sprayed with holy water from the fire truck manned by the Sacrament Lutheran Militia who help Sam and Dean escape a group of demons.

6.01 Exile on Main St.

When Dean discovers that Sam is back from Hell, Sam wants to prove he isn't a monster and since Dean didn't throw any holy water in Sam's face, Sam drinks some holy water laced with salt to prove that he is human.

6.18 Frontierland

After Samuel Colt kills some demons, he is suspicious when Sam arrives, and so he splashes Sam with holy water.

7.08 Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!

Dean sprays Guy with holy water as he tries exorcising him, but Crowley appears to make an example of the cheating demon.

8.01 We Need to Talk About Kevin

Dean returns from Purgatory and when he first meets Sam, Dean tests him with holy water, borax, and silver. Then, when Sam refuses to test Dean, Dean proves it is him by testing himself the same way. Later, Kevin squirts them with borax, however, Dean states that they are not Leviathans. Later when Crowley and Channing Ngo find Kevin, Kevin drenches them both in holy water so he can make his escape with Sam and Dean.

8.02 What's Up, Tiger Mommy?

To confirm she's not possessed, Sam and Dean splash holy water on Linda Tran's face.

8.07 A Little Slice of Kevin

Linda Tran repeatedly soaks people with holy water, including Kevin and Delta Mendota. When Crowley captures Kevin, Linda squirts holy water at one of his demons and captures him so the Winchesters can find Kevin and the other prophets of the current generation.

8.12 As Time Goes By

When Henry first arrives in 2013, Sam and Dean do not know who he is, so they splash Henry with holy water to make sure that he isn't a demon.

8.19 Taxi Driver

Sam and Dean torture a crossroads demon with holy water to get information on how to get into Hell by pouring it on his head.

8.21 The Great Escapist

Kevin uses a squirt gun to spray Sam and Dean with holy water. Apparently, the holy water doesn't work because the water itself isn't holy, and the two guys, who appear to be Sam and Dean, are really demons.

9.02 Devil May Care

Dean splashes holy water at Abaddon while Tracy Davis goes to get more devil's trap bullets from the Impala.

9.11 First Born

In order to get information about the First Blade, Dean and Crowley seek out a hunter named Tara, who had worked with John at one time when they captured Abaddon's protégé. Tara decides that Dean must be possessed if he was working with the King of Hell, so she tests him by splashing him with holy water.

9.17 Mother's Little Helper

Sam tests Billy with holy water in his cell after he gets taken into custody. In 1958, Henry Winchester and Josie Sands use holy water when exorcising two demon possessed nuns working for Abaddon and Sister Agnes.

10.02 Reichenbach

After Demon Dean beats Cole Trenton, Sam splashes him with holy water before slapping on the binding handcuffs.

10.03 Soul Survivor

So he can get close enough to inject him with purified blood, Sam splashes Dean with holy water. Later, Sam splashes Dean again to confirm he's cured.

10.07 Girls, Girls, Girls

Cole captures a demon in a devil's trap and tortures it for information on Dean with holy water. After catching up with him, Cole splashes Dean because he still believes that Dean is a demon, until he reveals he's not a demon anymore.

11.18 Hell's Angel

As Sam is performing an exorcism to expel Crowley from Casifer's vessel. Dean splashes holy water in Lucifer's face.

13.02 The Rising Son

Mary Winchester ends up on the receiving end when a hunter tests whether she is a demon while she is trapped in Apocalypse World.

13.18 Bring 'em Back Alive

When Lucifer attempts to help two priests in the midst of an exorcism, he reveals to them he is the Devil and running Heaven, causing the priests to splash holy water at Lucifer's face, annoying him enough to dust them.
