She has been plotting a "take-over" for some time now. Lilith sees Sam as her competition, and according to several demons, has given orders for his death. She holds all the contracts that the [[Crossroads Demon]] has made.

Sam attempts to bargain with the Crossroads Demon, to release Dean from his deal. The Crossroads Demon tells him that whilst she strikes the deals; the contracts are held by another demon. An infuriated Sam demands that she tells him who holds Dean's contract, however his demands fall on deaf ears. She is forbidden from revealing her Boss's identity. However it should be noted during their conversation she addresses her boss as a "he", however in fact we know that Lilith holds all the deals. It is believed that the Crossroads Demon was deliberately trying to mislead Sam, to conceal Lilith's identity.
