'Lullabies don't work no more

I locked the windows, blessed the walls

The doors are sealed with lines of salt
The only thing that could break in’s
The harsh light from the parking lot

Another shitty motel room
Another body to exhume
Another nightmare shaking you
Another vision waking you

Bite down on that frightened shout
Don’t want the neighbors coming out
Yeah take a breath and let it out
And tell me what you’ve seen…

When we were young and you got scared
I’d tell you it was just a dream –
I’m here to keep you safe, I’d say,
And that part’s true eternally,
But I can’t tell you truthfully that it was just a dream.

You shouldn’t trust a children’s game
but three times you said Mary’s name
You saw your lover in the flames
She tells you that you were to blame

Another stretch of open road
An absent father’s trail gone cold
And every time your eyes drift closed
She’s burning bright and uncontrolled…

Now you’re slammed awake again
A nightmare that will never end
She’s never coming back you know
So take a breath and let it go
I wish that I could take back all the things that you have seen

When we were young and you were scared
I’d tell you it was just a dream –
I’m here to keep you safe, I’d say,
And that part;s true eternally,
But I can’t tell you truthfully that it was just a dream.
Oh god I wish that I could tell you it was just a dream
It was just a dream there’s nothing’ out there…
There’s nothin’ out there –
go to sleep…
go sleep.
