Misha Collins plays the angel Castiel on Supernatural. Misha has also appeared as the characters Jimmy Novak, Lucifer, the Cosmic Entity, and the Apocalypse World version of Castiel.

Biography

Misha Collins (birth name Dmitri Tippens Krushnic) was born August 20, 1974. He grew up in Massachusetts. After attending the Greenfield Center School, Misha graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon in 1992. In the following year, he pursued a wide variety of interests, including a job at NPR headquarters, a White House internship during the Clinton administration, construction work, and an EMT certification course. He then went on to the University of Chicago where he studied social theory. After college, Misha moved to Washington, DC with his partner Victoria Vantoch, a writer, and started an educational software company. Then, on a lark, Misha decided to take an acting class, and soon found himself in the midst of a career change. He got a call for a role in Liberty Heights (directed by Barry Levinson), and then landed a part in Girl, Interrupted. He moved to Los Angeles soon thereafter, and now has a substantial list of acting credits to his name, including roles on 24, ER, CSI, Monk, Charmed and NYPD Blue.

Having traveled in Russia and mastered the accent, Misha has been called on several times to play Russian characters in television series—most notably the villainous assassin, Alexis Drazen, on 24. He has also appeared in seven independent feature films, most notably Stonehenge Apocalypse. Misha wrote and directed the short film Stranger Danger as well as serving as producer on and also acted in the web series Divine: The Series.

On September 23, 2010, Misha and Vicki welcomed their first child into the world, West Anaximander Collins. Two years later on September 25, 2012, they would have daughter, Maison Marie Collins.

  • Cooking Fast and Fresh with West is a video where the cooking is slow and adorable rather than fast and furious, but you are guaranteed to love this video of Misha and West shopping and making dinner. Warning - contains footage of Misha and West eating broccoli

Episodes

  • Recurring role: Seasons 4 & 7
  • Special Guest Star: Season 8
  • Series Regular: Seasons 5–6, 9-present
  • In Season 12, Misha's billing in the opening credits reads "and Misha Collins." This type of credit, sometimes called "last billing," is typically contractually negotiated by well-known actors in supporting roles.

In the alternate reality, Misha Collins likes tweeting and is keen to become friends with Jared and Jensen. The first time they see Misha, Sam and Dean mistake him for Castiel, and Misha believes they are pranking him by pretending to be Sam and Dean. The next day on his way home from the set, the angel hitman Virgil kidnaps Misha, takes him to a dark alley, and slits his throat, killing him. He then uses Misha's blood in a goblet of blood to contact Raphael.

Misha Collins spent a lot of time on Twitter in the episode, and at one point he tweets "Ola mishamigos! J2 got me good. Really starting to feel like one of the guys." During the U.S. East Coast airing of that episode, the tweet appeared on Misha's profile (Source). During the U.S. West Coast airing of the episode, Misha tweeted, "IMHO j&j had a late one last night. Rotflmfao!" (Source). After both of the airings were over, Misha then tweeted, "My phone was stolen and apparently cast into a parallel universe devoid of magic. I've retrieved it. I promise it won't happen again" (Source). All three tweets were retweeted by over 100 people in a matter of hours.

The words #Misha, #metamadness and #kripke all made it into the Top Ten Trending Topics in the United States as the episode went to air.
