Monsters are supernatural beings that were once human, but have been infected by various means to become monsters. They were created by Eve, the mother of all monsters, who herself has ancestry from the Leviathan, according to the Alpha Vampire and leviathan Edgar. She was briefly resurrected and soon killed during Crowley and Castiel's attempt to claim the souls of Purgatory, which holds the souls of deceased monsters, as well as the leviathan.
