The next sign is a massive blackout originating from the house's location, which allows Sam and Dean to find them due to Castiel using the alias "James Novak" to rent the house.

When the angel [[Miriam]] realizes that she will not be able to take Jack with her, she feigns surrender to Sam, offering up her angel blade before stabbing Jack in the heart, telling the Winchesters if she can't have him no one will. Sam in retaliation swiftly kills Miriam. Jack drops to his knees and slowly pulls out the angel blade from his chest, having survived it with no ill effects.

Learning that Jack is a Nephilim, and the son of Lucifer, Donatello notes that Jack's power is nothing like Lucifer's, remarking it is not dark or toxic. Realizing that if Donatello is capable of locating Jack, others may be able to as well, Sam and Dean decide to get Jack tattooed with [[warding sigils]]. At first Jack's reaction to the pain of the needle touching his skin causes him to send out a burst of energy, knocking the artist through the air and into a nearby wall. Jack quickly understands that he will need to deal with the pain as a part of the human experience and allows the artist to continue without incident. However, as soon as the artist is done, Jack, as if by reflex, heals the fresh tattoos off of his body, giving further proof to Dean that Jack is dangerous. As Sam, Dean, and Donatello argue about Jack back at the motel, Dean's explosion of anger towards Jack causes him to teleport into a nearby alley where Sam finds him. He tells Sam that he doesn't understand why Dean hates him; Sam tries to explain that Dean is more scared than angry and just wants to make sure people are protected.

He convinces the boy that God wants Jack to free them. As Jack concentrates, the ground below him starts to open up like a [[devil's gate]], and with Asmodeus' urging Jack begins to bring forth the ''shedim''. With the sudden arrival of the Winchesters and the real Donatello, Asmodeus' manipulation is revealed, and upon seeing him hurting his friends, Jack turns on Asmodeus by closing the devil's gate and sending the ''shedim'' back. Asmodeus is able to escape before Jack turns his anger on the [[Prince of Hell]].

He begins their training by asking Jack to simply move a pencil with his mind. Jack looks at the pencil intensely while Sam appraises him. He glances at Sam and Sam nods towards the pencil encouragingly. Jack continues to try to move the pencil with his hand over it on the table, concentrating hard. Jack becomes increasing frustrated, and explains to Sam he doesn't know how he used his powers before, telling him they just happened. Deciding they need to take a break, Sam leaves the study and Jack by himself.

Sam sits at a table watching a live camera feed of Jack in the study on a laptop. He begins reading a book, only to find that Jack has disappeared from the table where he was sitting. Sam rushes back to the study to find Jack sitting in the corner holding the pencil, telling Sam he "moved" it. Jack begins to vent his frustration at Sam, saying that he believes he is evil, despite his mother telling him he has a choice to be good. Running an [[EMF]] leads Sam and Dean to believe they are dealing with a revenant. They go to the cemetery later that night with Jack to dig up the grave of the believed revenant. After finding a corpse, they go back to a ghost theory. At the Bunker, Sam looks into the spell, confirming to Dean that it looks legit. He says the spell is of Canaanite origin, dating back to the time of King Solomon who used the spell to keep tabs on the Queen of Sheba, who herself was purported in lore to be a Nephilim.

After [[Zachariah (Apocalypse World)|Zachariah]]'s mental manipulations against Jack fail, [[Michael (Apocalypse World)|Michael]] takes matters into his own hands and throws Jack into a cell alongside Mary Winchester. After Jack regains consciousness, he and Mary realize [[Michael's Fortress]] is heavily warded, to the point that it is even affecting Mary. They figure out the warding is weakest near a window, which allows Jack to use his powers and break the the bars, and they escape. In the barren wastelands, Jack and Mary are soon found by [[Bobby Singer (Apocalypse World)|Bobby Singer]], who brings the two back to his camp.

At the camp, Jack entertains the children with shadow puppets. When he begins creating more elaborate and physically impossible shadows, Bobby asks Mary if Jack is a [[psychic]] or a [[witch]]. Upon learning he is a Nephilim, he tells Mary he wants Jack gone by morning, with or without her. When morning comes, Mary breaks the news to Jack, but before they can leave Zachariah and two angels dive bomb into the camp in their pursuit of Mary and Jack and begin slaughtering anyone in their way. When Mary is cornered by Zachariah while helping a young girl, Jack arrives and uses his powers to telekinetically lift Zachariah off the ground, and with a gesture smites him into dust. When more angels begin their descent into the camp, Jack lifts his hand and causes the angels to explode in the sky. Bobby thanks Jack, who replies that he only did what Sam and Dean would have done. He tells them of his plans to put a stop to all the fighting and death by killing Michael.

History

Nephilim are the offspring of humans and angels. They are considered to be abominations and their creation is forbidden by the oldest laws of Heaven. The oldest known Nephilim in the lore was the Queen of Sheba, who visited King Solomon. He created a tracking spell for Nephilim to keep an eye on her.

At one point, there was only one, Jane, known to be on Earth. Jane was killed by Castiel after Metatron told him it was necessary, as one of the trials to close the Gates to Heaven required a Nephilim heart.

After Lucifer possesses President Jefferson Rooney and has sex with Kelly Kline, a presidential aide, he purposefully channels an immense amount of cosmic energy, resulting in the conception of another Nephilim, Jack. Due to the immense power used by Lucifer, the cosmic shock wave alerts all angels as well as the British Men of Letters of its creation.

Characteristics

The Nephilim appear human, but when they are provoked, they reveal glowing silver eyes. However, the Nephilim Jack Kline possessed golden eyes, possibly due to being born of an archangel as opposed to a regular angel. The gestation period for a Nephilim child is shorter than that of a normal human, around six months, and they appear to have the ability to be born fully matured into young adulthood if they so choose. When a Nephilim is born there are usually signs accompanying the birth such as storms, outbreaks of disease, plagues of locusts, massive power outages, and even tears in space and time. Due to being considered abominations of nature and Heaven, a Nephilim can cause dangerous reactions around objects considered holy, as shown when Kelly Kline set a Bible aflame just by placing her hand on it while pregnant with her son Jack.

Unlike angels, when a standard Nephilim is killed there is no explosion of light from their body; their silver eyes simply fade back to human.

According to the lore, it is said that as a Nephilim grows into its power, it will become more powerful than the angel that sired it.

Powers and abilities

  • Clairsentience – Nephilim can see the halos on angels.
  • Enhanced durability – Nephilim can withstand attacks from angels and seraphs such as Metatron and Castiel, respectively. They can also shield themselves from magical attacks.
  • Superhuman strength – A Nephilim's strength far exceeds that of normal angels, including seraphs such as Castiel.
  • Teleportation – Nephlim, like angels, have wings and are capable of teleporting.

Weaknesses

  • Angel blade – The Nephilim Jane was killed with an angel blade. Jack, due to being born of an archangel, is shown to be unharmed by the blades.
  • Archangel blade – Was able to wound Jack, who had his grace removed.
  • The Equalizer – A special hand gun created by God with the specific purpose of killing Jack Kline (as well as anything else).
  • Extracting grace – The process can render a Nephilim human. When a Nephilim loses their grace, it may take anywhere between a month to a century to replenish, however their human component decelerates the process due to the grace of a Nephilim keeping its unnatural nature in balance.
  • God – With a snap of his fingers, Chuck was able to smite Jack, killing him. The smiting was not instantaneous as past instances, however, possibly due to Jack's strength.
  • Warding sigils – Certain powerful warding is capable of nullifying a Nephilim's powers.

Nephilims

  • The Queen of Sheba: According to Sam, she was described as half-angel in the lore. After she visited King Solomon, he commissioned a tracking spell capable of locating nephilim to keep an eye on her. The spell was later located by Barthamus and offered to give it to Sam and Dean to find Jack as opposed to giving it to Asmodeus, even giving them half the spell to verify its authenticity. He wanted the Winchesters to retrieve his bones from Luther Shrike in exchange for the other half of the spell, but after stealing them they decided not to relinquish them to Barthamus because they don't like him. Alice then burns his bones, killing Barthamus and incinerating the other half of the spell in the process, rendering the Winchesters' half useless.[1]
Castiel kills the Nephilim Jane.
  • Jane: She is a Nephilim who is, according to Metatron, the only one in existence at the time (2013). She works as a waitress at a restaurant called Eugenies in Ojai, California, and serves Metatron and Castiel. When the two decide that Castiel will do the three trials to seal off Heaven, Metatron reveals that the waitress is a Nephilim and Castiel must kill her and cut out her heart to complete the first trial. The two angels follow Jane after she finishes work one night, but she reveals her knowledge of what they are and begs them not to kill her. As she is an innocent woman, Castiel hesitates but when she attacks him and Metatron, Castiel kills her with his angel blade, thus completing the trial.[2]
  • Jack Kline: He is the Nephilim offspring of Kelly Kline and Lucifer. He was conceived when Lucifer inhabited the body of President Jefferson Rooney, with whom Kelly was having a relationship. As Castiel cares for Kelly during the later part of her pregnancy, Jack bonds with him and comes to view him as his father after he is born. Following his birth, the Winchesters take him in to keep watch over him in case he is evil, and to use him to access the Apocalypse World where Mary is trapped. However over time, the Winchesters accept him into the family. Jack reciprocates their familial ties, even stating that Lucifer is nothing to him and that Castiel and the Winchesters are his family. When Jack finally meets his father, Lucifer, a bond begins to form between the two, where Jack even mourns over his father's apparent death. However, once Jack realizes that Lucifer has not changed his ways, he rejects his father, prompting Lucifer to steal and consume a majority of Jack's grace and force Jack and Sam into a battle to the death for his enjoyment. While Sam is unwilling to kill him, Jack attempts suicide with the archangel blade, but he stops after Dean arrives after granting consent to Michael and eventually kills Lucifer. After killing Michael using the power of his soul, Jack takes the archangel's grace and regains his powers as a Nephilim. Donatello Redfield later states that he is probably the most powerful being in the universe. He is later killed by God when He is unable to convince Dean to kill Jack instead. However, Jack is resurrected by Billie with a plan for Jack to become strong enough to kill God Himself. Initially resurrected in the soulless state Jack was in when he died, Jack's soul is subsequently restored by a visit to the Garden of Eden. After fusing his human soul with his nephilim grace using Adam's Rib, he becomes a living power vacuum for life energy, absorbing power from all plant life around him. Jack uses this to steal Chuck's powers, making him the new God, coexisting in harmony with The Darkness.
