Episode(s) 5.03 Free To Be You And Me

Raphael is one of God's mightiest angels. Also, Raphael has seen God face to face. Raphael is extremely powerful, even compared the strongest of beings. Raphael is one of the most powerful entities in all of creation. Raphael is capable of emitting angelic energy from his body, this blast was so powerful it destroyed an entire Gas Station called Pump 'n Go. Donnie Finnerman is the Vessel for Raphael.

  • Raphael was the Archangel who killed Castiel at the end of Season 4. This was reveled in episode 5.03 Free To Be You And Me. It is uncertain as to whether Raphael was the Archangel who was also protecting the Prophet Chuck Shurley, but he found and destroyed Castiel while in Chuck's presence. Raphael stated that he could bring Dean to Michael personally. This suggests that Raphael could physically bring Dean to Heaven (or to a certain location where Michael's presence is present.)
  • Raphael may be Chuck's Guardian (not explicitly stated.)
  • Raphael made an appearance in 4.22 Lucifer Rising, however he was not physically seen in this particular episode.
  • It was believed that Raphael was the only one who knew where God currently resided (According to Castiel, Raphael was one of the few who knew of God's location.) In addition to knowing God's true location (or status) he is also one of the four angels that have seen God's True Face.
  • Father Reynolds while administering Last Rites to Father Gregory's spirit: "I call upon the archangel Raphael, master of the air, to make open the way. Let the fire of the Holy Spirit now descend, that this being might be awakened to the world beyond." 2.13 Houses of the Holy

Raphael Facts

  • Raphael is the angel who is responsible for killing Castiel
  • Raphael is extremely powerful, he can emit holy white energy from his body, and this holy energy is capable of decimating buildings and other structures.
  • Raphael could be Chuck's Guardian Angel; Raphael seems to be the Archangel who is responsible for protecting the Prophet named Chuck Shurley (in need of confirmation)
  • Raphael is one of the few angels who aren't cut-off from Heaven's power.
  • His mere essence can cause small tremors; his essence can also destroy any lesser angel (such as Castiel) who is in the vicinity of his angelic essence 4.22 Lucifer Rising.

5.03 Free To Be You And Me

Raphael possesses his Vessel, Donnie Finnerman, during a skirmish with demons at a gas station called Pump 'n Go in Maine.

The Vessel, Donnie Finnerman, was left in a catatonic state after he returned to Heaven. However, Castiel is able to summon Raphael using an Enochian invocation, to interrogate him as to where God is, while trapping him behind a wall of holy flame (made by igniting some Holy Oil that Castiel obtained from Jerusalem).

Raphael tells Dean and Castiel that God is dead, and that the heavenly hosts are tired of waiting and want to bring forth paradise on Earth. Castiel did not believe Raphael and questioned who was it then who resurrected him after he was destroyed by Raphael. Raphael asked Castiel has he considered that it could be Lucifer. After all, Lucifer needed all the rebellious angels that he could get his hands on. Raphael tells Dean that he is more powerful than Zachariah and that he is more than capable of doing things that Zachariah could never dream of doing, this suggests that Zachariah is not an Archangel.

Castiel and Dean then leaves Raphael, but was warned not to leave him in that state. Raphael threatened to hunt down Castiel, to which he replied "Maybe one day. But today, you're my little bitch!".
