An Irish sort of boogeyman said to live by the pipes under the sink, and to drown naughty children and reward the good. He is covered all over with matted hair, as pale flat eyes, lives in dark cupboard, and is rumored to have crouching form like a rock.

There is also a version of the Rawhead, known as 'Rawhead and Bloody Bones', that originated in northern England. In this version, it's a water demon that inhabits deep ponds and marl-pits and drags children into its lair. The name is often shortened to Bloody Bones, Old Bloody Bones or Tommy Rawhead.

The following rhyme originated in Yorkshire/Lancashire:

Rawhead and Bloody Bones
Steals naughty children from their homes,
Takes them to his dirty den,
And they are never seen again.
