Revolution
Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why? Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it? On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman's life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. On September 24, 2011. Deadline announced that a drama written by Kripke and to be developed by J.J. Abrams has gotten a pilot production commitment from NBC. The series called Revolution is described as an epic adventure thriller to be produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot production company and Warner Bros. TV. Abrams, Kripke and Bryan Burk are executive producing.
J.J. Abrams is a writer, producer and director know for TV series including LOST, Felicty, Alias and fringe as well as the Star Trek reboot movie, Super 8 and Cloverfield.
November 7: In an interview with the L.A. Times, J.J. Abrams talks about Eric Kripke’s ‘undeniably good’ pilot:
- J.J.A.: I’ve been a fan of “Supernatural.” I like him a lot. He’s a really good guy, and he came to us with an idea that was undeniably good. It was such a great premise for a series that it was just that feeling of the misery that you’d feel if you had a chance to be part of that and didn’t take advantage of it. I’m really looking forward to that show. He’s so obviously the real deal, and we’re just really lucky and honored that he wanted to collaborate with us on it.
- What I love about his writing is it’s alive, it’s visual. He writes things that become images in your mind as you’re reading it, but he also is deeply concerned about character, back story, the emotional lives of the people he’s writing. It’s something I really appreciate. Again, I look forward to working with him in any capacity.
February 2, 2012 : Revolution is given the green light to the pilot with "a massive production commitment and a $2 million penalty attached to it"source. The show is now being described as:
- "a high octane action drama that follows a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.source"
March 1, 2012 : Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito cast in Revolution. He will play Lt. Neville a "tough but deceptively gentle southern military man, who may not be all he appears." Also cast are Tracy Spiridakos (Psych, Being Human ) who will play Charlie, described as “a warrior”, Graham Rogers as Danny Matheson, a “cunning hunter” and Australian actress Anna Lise Phillips (Home and Away).Source.
May 7 2012 : NBC announces it has picked up Revolution, to air in the fall. Also now in the cast are The Cape‘s David Lyons and Twilight’s Billy Burke. source

May 14: At the Upfronts NBC announces that revolution will screen Mondays at 10pm. Watch clips from the opening episode and interviews with the cast and crew (except Kripke).
June 15: It is announced that Revolution will premiere at 10pm on Monday 17th September source.
July 16: Eric Kripke will appear on the panel for his new series Revolution on Saturday 14th July at Comic Con 2012 along with actors Billy Burke, Giancarlo Esposito, Tracy Spiridakos and director/co-executive producer Jon Favreau in Room 6BCF.
