When I joined the show and watched the first six seasons I was shocked at how emotional the story was and how I related it to emotionally. I’m a big nerd. I came for the monsters, but I stayed for the drama. I remember very vividly Bob Singer and Jeremy Carver coming in and saying, 'The 200th episode is going to land this season and we want to do it as a musical in a high school where kids are adapting the Chuck Shurley books,'" Thompson says. Robbie Thompson started work on Supernatural in season seven. He became known as a writer of episodes with many genre and meta references. He found a portal to the land of Oz in the bunker, and created lesbian nerd character Charlie Bradbury whose aliases were comprised of the name of a Stephen King character and a famous science fiction writer. (Thompson reportedly fought hard against the manner of her death, in an episode he did not write. He also played with form in episodes including 8.04 Bitten which was from the point of view of the "victims of the week"], and 11.04 Baby was entirely from the perspective of the Impala. He also introduced Eileen Leahy the Deaf hunter who was played by Shoshannah Stern who Thompson had worked with on Jericho.

Robbie wrote the 200th episode 10.05 Fan Fiction, which was set around a high school musical about Supernatural and also wrote the lyrics for the songs "The Road So Far", "I'll Just Wait Here Then" and "A Single Man Tear" .

In June 2021, it was announced that The Winchesters was in development from Chaos Machine Productions and that the CW has given a script commitment for the project which would center on the early life of John and Mary Winchester. Robbie Thompson was named as Executive Producer and showrunner along with E.Ps Jensen and Danneel Ackles.

Comics

Working in TV has all just been an elaborate plan to get into comics! Thanks to my older brother Michael, I’ve been a life-long comic book fan, and I’m very passionate about the medium. Thompson has written for a wide range of comic titles. His Robbie entry into the Marvel universe began with the steampunk inspired Lady Spider, a short story in the Spider-Verse #1 anthology. His other titles for Marvel include titles featuring Doctor Strange, The Hulk, Daredeveil, and Spiderman titles including.

Other projects

Before Supernatural, Thompson worked on the series Jericho , where he would meet Richard Speight and Shoshannah Stern. He also wrote for the series Human Target, as well as the comic series for Human Target awith Peter Johnson.

On May 2014 it was announced that Thompson also had a project in development with TNT based on Stephen King's Firestarter. It is produced by James Middleton (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Jaime Paglia (Eureka) and Thompson. However the project didn't go forward.

The drama centers on the insidious agency responsible for kidnapping and attempting to exploit the psychokinetic powers of a young girl named Charlie McGee in the original story. Now it’s 20 years later and Charlie has been tracked down by one of The Shop’s former members, Henry Talbot, who introduces her to a group of people with their own unique abilities. source From the announcement: “It turns out The Shop is very much alive, bigger and badder than ever, and its dark experiments are unleashing terrifying new entities on the world. It’s now up to Talbot, Charlie and the rest of the team to find The Shop and destroy it for good.”

In 2020, he was the Co-Executive Producer on the fantasy series Cursed.
