Berens and actor Curtis Armstrong

Robert Berens joined the Supernatural writing team in season nine, and served as an executive story editor and supervising producer before being promoted to co-executive producer in season 13. He had previously worked on the animated series Kappa Mikey before being hired for the CW series Ringer, which was created by former Supernatural writers/co-executive producers Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder.

In 2017/18 Berens developed the Wayward Sisters series, which aired an embedded pilot in Supernatural's 13th season with 13.10 Wayward Sisters. In 2019, Berens joined Jeremy Carver's adaptation of Doom Patrol for the DC Universe streaming service, in conjunction to his duties on Supernatural.

At Comic-Con 2019, it was revealed that Berens had been promoted to executive producer for Supernatural's final season.

In 2020, Berens became executive producer and co-showrunner on the CW's reboot of Kung Fu, set to air in 2021. *It had a brilliant debut with 1.4 million viewers, giving the Wednesday slot its largest audience in over two years.   • On February 15, 2015 Robert was interviewed on Fox Business about the current shortage of Nicorette lozenges. The host referred to Supernatural as the "very well regarded CW show."
  • Co-wrote the song "Bloody Messiah" alongside series composer Jay Gruska for 12.07 Rock Never Dies.
  • It is unconfirmed, but Berens claims to be the first person to watch the 1996 Mike Leigh drama Secrets & Lies on the streaming service HBOMax that launched on 27 May 2020.
