[[image:Ruby_The Empty.png|350px|left|thumb|Ruby is awoked in the Empty.]]While looking for [[the Occultum]], the Winchesters learn from [[AnaelSister Jo]] that she gave it to Ruby, leading to a flashback revealing that the two sometimes worked together. Anael Jo claims that she gave the Occultum to Ruby to sell and that the demon hid it in Hell before her own death as she didn't have enough time to sell it before Dean killed her. However, this turns out to be a trap and Anael Jo attempts to have them killed by [[demons]].

Suspicious of the holes in AnaelJo's story, Castiel decides to visit [[the Empty]] to ask Ruby herself about the Occultum. The [[Cosmic Entity]] reluctantly directs Castiel to a pulsating mass of red energy that transforms into Ruby, taking the form she had when she died, only with a different set of clothing. Though surprised, Ruby reveals the truth about her deal with Anael Jo which was that they would use the Occultum to hide if necessary when the Apocalypse went down and it didn't go their way. Ruby requests that Castiel get her out of the Empty in exchange for her help in finding it and accepts his promise to at least try. Ruby reveals to Castiel where she hid the Occultum in a church, but fails to mention the [[hellhounds]] that she left to guard it.
