Hell
Hell
Demons are formed in Hell by the corruption of a human soul over timecenturies. Lucifer made Lilith into the first demon in order to mock God's creation of humanity. While in Hell, Dean eventually broke under Alastair's torture and started torturing souls himself, and doing so likely would have been transformed him without Heaven's intervention. Angels are able to rescue souls from Hell, though this generally requires a massive incursion, but a human can rescue a soul as well if they can sneak into and out of Hell with said soulwithout being detected.
The process of converting a soul into a demon essentially corrupts the soul; when Crowley attempted to offer his soul to Plutus for the demon tablet, the offer was rejected as he did not have a soul to offer.
When the demons of Hell prove reluctant to abandon their loyalty to Crowley, Abaddon decides to create her own demons by taking having her loyalists steal souls from still living humans, in order to create her own demonic army to take Hell.
Father Max Thompson developed a way to wash away the corruption a demon endures during its time in Hell and restores their humanity through a ritual of human blood, either purified blood by a human after going to confession or donated blood sanctified bloodby a priest.
According to the demon Belphegor, a soul that has been condemned to Hell can never get into Heaven. Though John Winchester escapes from Hell through the Devil's Gate in Wyoming and got into Heaven after finding peace upon Azazel's death. Bobby Singer got into Heaven after he was admitted by Naomi to complete the second trial to seal the gates of Hell. Crowley also loaned Castiel 50,000 souls from Hell to make his first stand against Raphael in Heaven, though he only did so to weaponize their collective energy rather than admit them into Heaven.
Belphegor believed that God had simply made exceptions for them and without God's help, it would be impossible. However, given how Naomi admitted Bobby into Heaven, it's more likely that for condemned souls to enter Heaven, they require permission from one of the angels leading Heaven. Since the second trial to seal the gates of hell is to rescue a an innocent soul from Hell and deliver them to Heaven, it's also possible that God changed the rules to prevent Sam and Dean from returning the souls he unleashed back into Hell.
Since Sam and Dean were admitted to Heaven upon their final deaths, given that they both died and went to Hell at some point, Bobby confirmed that Jack made a few changes before the New God left for parts unknown, granting condemned souls salvation in Heaven, including the Winchesters along with their deceased allies who were initially condemned by Chuck.
