End of the final script

On 6th March, Andrew Dabb posted a screenshot of the final page of the final script. It read "The End." In response, creator Eric Kripke tweeted "I wrote “To Be Continued” at the end of the every #SPN ep as a good luck ritual. They couldn’t cancel us, we were continuing! #SPNFamily: know what’s still continuing? You. Your love for each other & the good you put in the world. If I could ask one thing, it’s that: keep it up."

Clever fans decoded the sentence, which is cut off above "BLACKOUT". It reads - "When the final chord of the song plays, we "

Supernatural Production Board designed and drawn by Emma Peterson as it was when filming stopped on March 13th, 2020

The series finale was due to air on Monday 18th May 2020, although this will now change due to the shutdown of production on the 13th of March due to COVID-19. Showrunner Andrew Dabb said ahead of the broadcast of Destiny's Child on 23rd March, that the episode would be that last broadcast at present as the visual effects and audio weren't finished on episodes 14-18 before the shutdown. There were two episodes left to film. Dabb also said that "We, the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series. It's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when"."

For Jensen's birthday, Jared posted a photo of the two of them on Instagram, saying "“Happy birthday @jensenackles In the 16 birthdays I’ve been able to share with you as a friend, you’ve become a brother. Now, we have one month left to play brothers on tv. No one I’d rather cross this finish line with…Let’s take those boys home.” In response Jensen said "This was an emotional moment caught at the end of one of our very last photo shoots... and now I'm even more emotional. This is how we started and this is how we'll end."

The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has been felt around the world, and has affected the SPNFamily. On 13th March it was announced that Supernatural, along with all other Warner Brothers TV series, had shut down production until further notice. Supernatural had just finished filming its 18th episode, directed by Richard Speight, and had just over two weeks left of filming on its final season. The shutdown may also affect the filming of Jared's new season Walker, which was due to start filming the pilot in late April. The broadcast schedule of the last half of Supernatural's season 15 may also change depending on when production resumes.

Other events effected by the pandemic:

  • Jus In Bello Italy 2020 which includes Jibland 5 from 13-14 May and JIB 11 on 15-17 May 2020 will be postponed til a date to be announced.
  • Purgatory 6 has been postponed but a new date has not been announced.
  • Salute to Supernatural Nashville 2020 and Momento Con Pittsburgh 2020 have both been postponed til August.

  • Salute to Supernatural Las Vegas 2020 went ahead on 5-8 March 2020, but with a "no touch" rule for photo-ops. Fans and actors alike came up with many inventive poses.

  • A familiar car was spotted in photos for the March 24th episode of Legends of Tomorrow ! episode's plot, has Constantine, Charlie, and Sara traveling to British Columbia and running into the Supernatural crew filming an episode! The Impala was a fan car, not one from the show. This is the second show to intersect with what is known as the "French Mistake" verse, after the episode 6.15 The French Mistake, where the Winchesters travelled to an alternate universe where Supernatural was a TV show. It also made an appearance in the second season of Sera Gamble's series You.
  • Entertainment Weekly has released a special commemorative publication for the final season of Supernatural. You can buy it here.
  • The CW has given Jared's new series Walker a straight to series order! While they have not yet shot the pilot, the series has been given the green light for its first season. The first episodes will be available for ad buyers at the Upfront presentation in May, which will possibly mean Jared going into filming it very soon after Supernatural wraps. Check out our entry on Walker for all the latest casting news.
  • On Feb 17th, Jared ran the Austin marathon and finished in 3:47:50! Genevieve was going to participate but had a bad cold just before the event.
  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan will play a New York detective tracking a serial killer across Europe in the movie "The Postcard Killing" out on March 13th.
  • Taylor Cole talks about her return to Supernatural as Sarah Blake in Season 8.
  • After 60 years, Chevrolet has ceased production of the Impala. Fitting somehow, with the end of Supernatural!
  • D.J. Qualls who plays Garth came out as gay in January 2020. He made the announcement when he joined former Legit co-star comedian Jim Jeffries on stage during a gig in San Diego on the 10th January. He later tweeted: "It is 11:20pm. I just came out on stage at a @jimjefferies show in San Diego. Yep, I'm gay. Been gay this whole time. Tired of worrying about what people would think of me. Tired of worrying about what it would do to my career." He got lots of tweets of support from fandom and the SPN cast.

  • The album by Jensen and Steve Carlson as Radio Company is now available for purchase. They have released a limited edition vinyl version of their album Vol.1 for pre-order along with band merchandise on their website.
  • Richard Speight has released an album as"Dick Jr. & The Volunteers" called The Dance and How To Do It (2019) produced by Jason Manns. It was launched at the Roxy on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles on November 26. This is a playlist of videos from the night by Celina Beach.
