Sasha Grey is famous hardcore porn star. Her first non-porn feature was The Girlfriend Experience by renowned director Steven Soderbergh in 2009.

8.02 What's Up, Tiger Mommy?

Sam: He's right Dean, it's not worth it.

Crowley: Listen to Moose, Squirrel.

Crowley has long used Moose as a nickname for Sam. Here he calls Dean "Squirrel," referring to the cartoon duo of Bullwinkle (the moose) and Rocky (a squirrel).

8.03 Heartache

Xena was the eponymous star of the 1990s TV show Xena: Warrior Princess.

8.04 Bitten

Kate: ...of the two I prefer Last year at Marienbad.

Last Year at Marienbad is the English title of the 1961 french film L'année dernière à Marienbad by Alain Resnais. It is renowned for its ambiguity and narrative structure which blends fantasy and reality.

Michael: Please tell me you taped it.

Brian: C'mon who loves you?

Michael: I wish I could quit you.

"I wish I knew how to quit you." was a line from Jack to his lover Ennis in the movie Brokeback Mountain.

Sam: Dude, two burgers?

Dean: Hey, I didn't eat at Big P's for at least a year, okay? Clear eyes and clogged arteries--can't lose.

This is a play on the phrase "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose," the motivational phrase of Coach Taylor in the TV series Friday Night Lights.

Brian: Look, look! Starskey and Hutch.

Michael: Rizzoli and Isles.

Starsky and Hutch were the eponymous (male) detectives in 1970s TV series. Rizzoli and Isles are a detective and a medical examiner (both female) in the TV series of the same name which started in 2010.

Brian: The FBI are looking for what bit you. Are you an X-file?

Obvious reference to The X-Files.

8.05 Blood Brother

Sam: Kid's like Rain Man.

Dean: He's like a crappy little credit-card-counting criminal prodigy Rain Man.

Sam: Well, he was in Advanced Placement.

Dean: Shut up.

Rain Man refers to the character played by Dustin Hoffman in the 1988 movie Rain Man, who was an autistic savant.

Sam: You are a wascally wabbit, Mr. Tran.

Cartoon hunter Elmer Fudd would refer to Bugs Bunny as a "wascally wabbit" when he was eluding him.

8.06 Southern Comfort

Garth: Even if there was any sulfur, Barney Fife and his crew probably contaminated the whole crime scene and any evidence that was here with it

Barney Fife was the not particularly competent deputy in the sleepy town of Mayberry on the '60s The Andy Griffiths Show.

Dean: So first the mom goes Natural Born Killer, and now the son? Well, what do we got--a ghost with an Oedipus complex?... I don't know what that means.

Natural Born Killers was a 1994 Oliver Stone movie about two spree killers.

8.08 Hunteri Heroici

Dean: Listen, you see anything weird, anything out of the box, you give us a call.

Detective Glass: Whatever you say, Scully.

A reference to The X-Files character Dana Scully.

Dean: I don't know what we're hunting. Maybe it's a tulpa, maybe it some guy who watched too much Robot Chicken.

Robot chicken is a stop-motion animated series that parodies pop culture.

Dean: So this Animaniac can step through walls, can toss an anvil?

The Animaniacs was a 1990s cartoon series.

Dean: Alright, let's gear up. It's wabbit season!

Castiel: I don't think you pronounced that correctly.

Wabbit is a reference to Elmer Fudd, and his pronunciation of the word rabbit.

8.10 Torn and Frayed

Mr. Hinckley: Sounded like Klingon to me.

Klingon is a language spoken by the race of the same name in Star Trek.

Castiel: I don't know. But the amount of pain an angel must be in not just to manifest through shrubbery but to burn – Dean... we have to find him before it's too late.

Writer Jenny Klein confirmed that the "shubbery" reference was a shout-out to Monty Python, and the famous Monty Python "Knights of Ni" scene from the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Watch the scene here.

8.11 LARP and the Real Girl

Sam: Sheriff. Special Agent Taggart. This is my partner, Special Agent Rosewood.

Taggart and Rosewood are characters in the 1984 Eddie Murphy comedy Beverley Hills Cop.

Sam: Maybe they had matching tattoos. I mean, they were brothers in arms. You recognize it from anything?

Dean: A Tim Burton movie? Aside from the, uh, mark of the creepy here, the only thing these guys have in common is LARPing.

Reference to the image from the posters for the movie Big Fish.

Charlie: Greyfox and Thargrim are missing. We pray to the goddess they have not fallen victim of foul play. In their absence, the honor guard's ranks are weakened. To join... Oh, blerg. Uh... The queen needs some royal "we" time. Talk amongst thyselves.

This saying indicating annoyance or frustration was popularized by Tina Fey's character of Liz Lemon on the TV series 30 Rock.

Charlie: Have fun storming the castle.

This is a quote from the 1987 movie The Princess Bride.

Dean: I’m noticing a lot of these maidens checking you out.

Charlie: What? I can’t shut this down. It’s good to be queen.

This is a riff on the line "It's good to be the King" from the Mel Brooks movie History of the World Part I.

Charlie: I’m just an IT girl, standing in front of a monster, asking it not to kill her.

This is a twist on the quote "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her" spoken by the Julia Roberts character in the romantic comedy Notting Hill.

LARPer: I love you.

Charlie: I know.

The lines are spoken between Leia and Han Solo as he is about to be frozen in carbonite at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Watch it here. It is also said between Charlie and one of her co-workers in 7.20 The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo.

Charlie: My name's Charlie. I'm here to rescue you.

This line was originally spoken by Luke to Leia in Star Wars "I'm Luke Skywalker. I'm here to rescue you." Watch it here.

Dean: And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days, from this day to that, for one chance –

Charlie: Isn't that the speech from –

Sam: It's the only one he knows.

Dean: Just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they will never take...

Dean: ...our freedom!

Dean's speech is taken from the speech given by 13th century Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, in the movie Braveheart.

8.12 As Time Goes By

Dean: So you're like Yodas to our Jedis. Never mind. You'll get there.

In Star Wars, Yoda is a powerful Jedi master who trains other Jedi.

Dean: He broke in to the trunk, stole an angel feather. I'm guessing he's gonna whip up another one of those blood spells and Marty McFly himself back to the 1950s.

Marty McFly is main character/time traveler of the Back to the Future franchise.

8.13 Everybody Hates Hitler

Dean: You mean, how do we "Oh No!" Mr. Bill over there?

Mr. Bill was a clay figure that gained popularity in short films that aired as part of Saturday Night Live. In each short, Mr. Bill would typically suffer abuse and eventual destruction with a cry of "Ohhhh noooooooooooooo..." in a high-pitched voice.

8.14 Trial and Error

Sam: T-trials like, uh, like Law & Order?

Kevin: More like Hercules. The tablet says, "Whosoever chooses to undertake these tasks should fear not danger, nor death, nor..." A word I think means getting your spine ripped out through your mouth for all eternity.

Law & Order was a long running police procedural, that also spawned four spin-offs.

Dean: Well, hellhounds like to collect on crossroads deals. So all we got to do is track down some loser who signed over his special sauce 10 years ago, get between him and Clifford the big dead dog -- easy.

Reference to Clifford the Big Red Dog, main character of the eponymous titled children's book series and television series.

Dean: Let's go visit the Beverly Hillbillies.

The Beverly Hillbillies is a television series that aired from 1962 to 1971 about a family that discovers oil on their land and becomes rich, much like the Cassity's.

8.15 Man's Best Friend with Benefits

Spencer: Oh, she's way more than familiar, isn't she? When she picked you as master, I endured it. But when you two went all Bella and Edward, broke the code, put your passions before the community rules, well, the arrogance, the entitlement was too much. Your total ruination seemed appropriate.

Bella and Edward is a reference to the Twilight characters Bella Swan and Edward Cullen.

8.16 Remember the Titans

Prometheus: Who? No, my name is Shane.

Prometheus' alias Shane may be a reference to the eponymous hero of the movie Shane, in which a mysterious stranger rides into town.

Dean: Yeah, and if things go all "Dawn of the Dead" on us, you'll be our first call.

Dawn of the Dead was the second of George Romero's of the Dead zombie movies.

Dean: What are you, a real life Kenny?

Kenny is a character of South Park who dies almost in every episode.

Sam: Well, that's not -- never mind. Um...We need to think. Dean, what do we know of that has Jason Bourne fighting skills, dies a lot, and has a history with violent women?

Jason Bourne is a fictional spy character created by author Robert Ludlum, and played by Matt Damon in a series of movies based on the novels. In the first book/movie, he is rescued at sea suffering from amnesia. However he has retained the memory of some things, such as his awesome fighting skills.

Sam: Yep. He, uh, "Ocean's Eleven'd" Mount Olympus and stole the flames of Olympia.

Ocean's 11 is a 1960's heist film, that was remade in 2001 by Stephen Soderbergh.

Dean: Damn. Every day for how long? No wonder the guy's hard drive is fried. Did you figure out who, uh, Xena-wannabe was?

Xena: Warrior Princess was syndicated television series following the exploits of the eponymous character, on the road to redemption for her past crimes.

Hayley: Okay, so Ollie's dad is a Greek God who has been cursed to die every day by Zeus. And you guys are... Ghostbusters. Am I getting this right?

Ghostbusters is a film franchise about ghost hunters in New York City.

Dean: Yeah, well, you promised, okay? You promised to live a long, Clark Griswold life full of prostate exams and colonoscopies, all right?

Clark Griswold was the father in the National Lampoon's Vacation series of comedies. Played by Chevy Chase, he was an enthusiastic family man.

8.17 Goodbye Stranger

Dean: So, chupacabra. What do we got? Power tools gone rogue? Wait -- are we talking a-a Maximum Overdrive situation here?

Maximum Overdrive is a 1986 horror movie written and directed by Stephen King in which machines become animate and try to kill people.

Sam: Yeah, but who's killing demons? And why? And, by the way, since when does a demon possess someone, then go all "Beautiful Mind" and -- and start digging in the dirt? Does any of this seem right to you?

Beautiful Mind is a 2001 movie about the life of the mathematician John Nash.

Meg: Aren't you a little short for a storm trooper?

In Star Wars, Leia says this line to Luke Skywalker when he comes to rescue her. In the episode the shot of Meg is framed as a mirror image of the shot of Leia in the movie.

Meg: What can I say? I needed a break from the constant torture. And I did visit them all during my time with Yellow Eyes. But don't worry. I haven't exactly been giving them the Glengarry leads.

In the play (and later movie) by David Mamet called Glengarry Glen Ross about a group of real estate agents, Glengarry leads, named after a housing development, were the contact details of potential clients with expensive properties.

Meg: Bupkis. Every crypt's been one Al Capone's vault after another. And on top of that, someone kept picking up the trail and icing demons. I'm guessing that was you, Castiel. But Crowley just keeps sending more. He's hell-bent on...

In 1986, a TV special hosted by Geraldo Rivera, centred around the opening of a secret vault once owned by gangster Al Capone. While it was expected to contain hidden stolen goods, or even bodies, but it was totally empty.

Meg: Why are you sweet on me Clarence?

Castiel: I still don’t know who Clarence is.

The demon Meg refers to Castiel as Clarence in a reference to the angel in the movie It's a Wonderful Life.

Dean: I saw you Zero Dark Thirty that demon.

Dean is referring to the 2012 movie of the same name, about the search for Osama Bin Laden, which featured explicit scenes of CIA torture of detainees.

Dean: All right, Cas and I will head in and get our Indiana Jones on. Sam, you stay outside with Meg.

Indian Jones was the hero in a series of movies. He is an archaeologist, who often has wild adventures as he tries to retrieve valuable artifacts and relics.

Dean: Okay, bottom-line it for me, Bill Nye. Is it lethal?

Bill Nye is a science educator best know for his TV show: Bill Nye The Science Guy

Crowley: Timon and Pumbaa tell you their big plan? Did they share that little chestnut with you? They mean to close the Gates of Hell, sweetheart. They mean to kill me and all the demons -- you included.

Timon and Pumbaa are a cartoon meerkat and warthog duo who first appeared in Disney's 1994 animated film The Lion King.

Naomi: How's the shoulder?

Crowley: Just a flesh wound.

In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Black Knight says the same thing after getting all of his limbs but one leg chopped off by King Arthur.

Dean: Listen, I may not be able to carry the burden that comes along with these trials... But I can carry you.

Sam: You... realize you kind of just quoted Lord of the Rings, right?

Dean: C'mon man, it's the Rudy hobbit. Rudy hobbit always gets a pass!

In Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Sam Gamgee (played by Sean Astin) says to Frodo "I cannot carry the ring, but I can carry you Mr. Frodo." Sean Astin played the eponymous hero in the movie Rudy, about a young man who overcomes obstacles to become a football hero. Basically a guy version of a chick flick.

8.18 Freaks and Geeks

Dean: What, sneaking out in the middle of the night to go hunt monsters with the Apple Dumpling gang?

The Apple Dumpling Gang was the name of a Disney movie, based on a book by the same name, about a gambler in the California goldrush who ends up with a group of orphans.

Dean: What? Get caught on Candid Camera? Let's just go find her before she gets into any more trouble.

"Candid Camera" is an American hidden camera/practical joke reality television series created and produced by Allen Funt, which initially began on radio as Candid Microphone June 28, 1947.

Dean: It's just not what I expected.

Krissy: And what was that?

Dean: A little more Lord of the Flies, less Huxtables.

The Huxtables were the middles class family of the 1980s sitcom The Cosby Show.

Dean: I want to talk to that girl who was tied up at the hotel. Something didn't smell right about that. Why don't you stay here and look after the Brady Bunch?

The Brady Bunch was the eponymous family in the 1970s TV series about a blended family of three boys and three girls.

8.20 Pac-Man Fever

Charlie: So, are you gonna invite me into your dungeon, or do I gotta answer your "questions three" first?

"Questions three" is a reference to the scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where in order for King Arthur and his Knights to cross the Bridge of Death, they must correctly answer three questions from the bridge-keeper, or be thrown into the chasm below.

Dean: Hi, uh. Special Agent Hicks, this is my partner Special Agent Ripley. We're here about the body with the creamy filling.

Dean and Charlie's aliases are a reference to the characters Ellen Ripley from the Alien series and Corporal Dwayne Hicks from Aliens.

Dean: What did you hack into when you were 12?

Charlie: NORAD

Dean: Yeah, whatever you say, WarGames. Why don't we go grab some grub while we wait.

WarGames is a 1983 movie starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy, about a young hacker called David who accidentally starts playing games with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and nearly causes a nuclear war.

Dean: So do we need to take Silkwood showers now?

The movie Silkwood was about the suspicious death of a whistleblower in the nuclear energy industry. The movie shows how when a radiation contamination is suspected, workers are subjected to brutal shower and scrubbing procedures.

Dean: Who the hell is she, Jason Bourne? Okay, so we got no forced entry, so either it was somebody that she knew, or...

Jason Bourne is the titular character in a series of spy thriller movies known as the Bourne series which are based on novels by Robert Ludlum. In The Bourne Identity, Jason Bourne, played by Matt Damon, finds himself suffering from amnesia, and attempts to discover who he is. Along the way he finds he has a stash of alternate identities he has documentation for.

Charlie: Come with me if you want to live! I've always wanted to say that. What're you doing in my dream?

The line is from the movie The Terminator where Kyle Reese rescues Sarah Connor from the movie's villain, the Terminator.

Dean: Well, thanks for stopping by, Charlie. Always wanted to get Tron'd. What's next for you?

Dean is referring to the movie Tron, in which the lead characters get trapped inside a computer game.

Charlie: That's my boys... I love you.

Dean: I know.

Little Big Man is the title of a 1970 western starring Dustin Hoffman. It is about a white man looking back on his life being raised by Indians.

8.22 Clip Show

Sam: Anything on Case 1138. It was a Class 5 infernal event, St. Louis, March 8, 1957.

Dean: Class 5 infernal event?

Sam: Yeah. See, the Letters had this whole ratings system. The Exorcist would have been a Class 2.

The Exorcist is a book and movie about a young girl possessed by a demon.

Dean: Dude, we got needles. We got thread. We've seen Young Frankenstein about a thousand times. Yeah, we're golden.

Young Frankenstein is a 1974 comedic take on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, written and directed by Mel Brooks and starring Gene Wilder.

8.23 Sacrifice

Crowley: Nice try, squirrel. Moose is doing these trials. Moose signs.

A reference to Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose from The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

Dean: So this is it? E.T. goes home.

Dean is referring to the eponymous hero in the movie E.T. the Extraterrestrial who, at the end of the movie, gets to return to his home planet.

Sam: Love the suit.

This might be a reference to one of Hannibal Lecter's lines in Silence of the Lambs.
