The demon does a waltz 'cheek to cheek' with Jeffery. Alastair sang a song to Dean with that phrase in S4 "On the Head of a Pin." This was just one parallel between Dean and Jeffery.
Father Merrin was the old priest who figured it all out in The Exorcist - might be related. There's also Joseph Merrick, aka The Elephant Man.
There is also Merrick Mayfair, a character from the Anne Rice book Merrick. The character's hometown and the location of story climax is New Orleans. The novel is part of The Vampire Chronicles which heavily features New Orleans.
- "The fun kind of chubby chaser" probably refers to Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, who hunted big women for their skin and was known to rock out naked in the mirror.
