{{Quotation
The Colt was made by Samuel Colt in 1835. When it is used with the supernatural bullets he made specially for it, the gun can kill anything. It was the first supernatural weapon introduced in the series.
Lucifer says that there are only five things in all of creation that can't be killed by the Colt and that he is one of them, whether he meant himself personally or archangels in general was never specified. The Alpha Vampire later confirmed in 12.14 The Raid that there were "five creatures" it couldn't kill.  It should also be noted that while the Colt can kill (almost) anything the shot must still be a kill shot. When Sam shoots John in the leg, while he is possessed by Azazel, the demon survives, but the shot allows for John to briefly take back control of his body before Azazel escapes. The Alpha Vampire later revealed in 12.14 The Raid that the five things that the Colt cannot kill are five individual creatures rather than five specific species of monsters.
Samuel Colt also designed the locked door to keep the portal to Hell known as the Devil's Gate from opening. The Devil's Gate and the Colt are linked together, the gun serves as the key to the gate, allowing it to be opened by inserting the Colt's muzzle into the keyhole. Colt then built a railroad of iron in the shape of a pentagram, with a church at each of the points, around the Devil's Gate to further ensure that it was demon-proof.
Make and Model of The Colt: The Colt has the appearance of an 1836 Colt Paterson Pietta Paterson Super Deluxe. In reality, the Colt Paterson, which is the first Revolver ever built, is surprisingly difficult to load. It can be assumed that the gun itself was modified in 3.04 Sin City when Bobby agreed to let Ruby restore its supernatural killing abilities which would explain how it can be easily reloaded without undergoing the painstakingly long process of deconstructing its barrel. See: History of the Colt Paterson.
Bullets: The 13 bullets made by Samuel Colt are engraved with numbers. Whenever The Colt fires a bullet, a cross within a circle along with a few vestiges of ancient scripture appear on the tip of it and burns orange-red right before it hits anything. It was first noticed in 2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose: Part Two when Dean uses the final original bullet in the chamber to kill Azazel. Whenever the Colt was used in Season 12, the cross can be seen in 12.14 The Raid when the Alpha Vampire was killed by Sam and 12.17 The British Invasion when Eileen Leahy intended to shoot Dagon, but hits Renny Rawlings when she teleports out of the way. The cross appears to resemble a Cross Potent, the Sun Cross, or a Ringed Cross. The closest match appears to be the Cross of Saint Benedict which has been used for centuries to ward off evil, alluding to the inscription on the barrel of the gun.
Ruby was able to build more bullets for the Colt in 3.04 Sin City, and later in 12.14 The Raid, Sam relates that Bobby had learned the method from her and passed it on to him. The process requires holy oil, sage and myrrh. They are mixed to make a tincture and used to coat silver bullets and the following spell must be recited to mimic the original etchings: "Signum est imitandum. Signum est imitandum."
Other Uses
* 2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose: Part Two: The Colt is used by Jake as a key to open the Devil's Gate in Wyoming.
* 3.04 Sin City: Ruby helps Bobby rebuild the Colt so and create new bullets for it will use any ammunition. Sam then uses it to kill Father Gil and Casey. This also marks the first time the Colt bullets now give off an orange-red hue when they kill a demon much like the bullet's effects with Azazel, but now it is for every demon Sam and Dean use the Colt on.
* 3.05 Bedtime Stories: Sam uses the Colt to kill a crossroads demon.
* 3.07 Fresh Blood: Dean shoots a vampire with it. This is the first time after Ruby helps Bobby make more bullets for the Colt, as well as the last time (so far), that we've seen the blue-colored hue being used after Dean kills the vampire. It can be suggested that the blue hue is only used against monsters now.
* 12.18 The Memory Remains: Sam uses it to kill the god Moloch.
* 12.19 The Future: Castiel attempted to kill Dagon with the Colt, but she teleported out of the way, while the bullet struck the wall.

The Five Things the Colt Can't Kill
Lucifer says that there are only five things in all of creation that can't be killed by the Colt and that he is one of them. One point of conjecture is whether Lucifer meant five individuals, or five types of beings. The Alpha Vampire confirms that there are "five creatures" that the Colt cannot kill which some fans take as meaning individuals rather than five specific species of monsters.

Azazel is the only demon to have survived being shot with the Colt, due in part to being shot in the leg rather than the head or the heart.

The Colt has been shown to kill:
* Humans
* Demons (including crossroads demons and Princes of Hell)
* Alphas (such as the Alpha Vampire)
* Monsters (such as the Phoenix and Vampires)
* Pagan gods (such as Moloch)

There is speculation about what other powerful beings may not be killed by the Colt including:
* God / Chuck and the Darkness / Amara – Given their respective status' as the cosmic embodiment of light and darkness, it is likely they are not vulnerable to the Colt.
* Archangels – Lucifer is shown to be invulnerable to the Colt, but a head shot disorients him for a few seconds. This suggests that archangels are immune to the Colt's powers.
* Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse – Famine, Pestilence and War were rendered powerless with the removal of their rings, so they could possibly be vulnerable to the Colt. Death maintains its power even without its ring, and seems to be more powerful than the other Horsemen. Given Death's claim it would eventually reap God, it may be invulnerable to the Colt as it appears only Death's Scythe is capable of killing Death. Though Lucifer was also shown to be able to smite Death, whether or not the Colt would work on the Entity is still unknown.
* Cain – When bearing the Mark of Cain, which was given to him by Lucifer, this may have protected him from the Colt. However, he was a Knight of Hell, lower in the hierarchy than the Princes of Hell who could be killed by the Colt, implying that the Colt can kill Cain.
* Eve – No clear evidence either way, however as she is dead it is a moot point.
Episodes
Dean uses the third remaining bullet to kill the demon Tom, after he and Sam rescue John. Their father, possessed by the Yellow-Eyed Demon, begs Sam to shoot him, but he cannot kill his father and uses the fourth bullet to shoot John in the leg, the hesitation to kill the demon and John with him, allowing it to flee.

The Yellow-Eyed Demon gives the Colt to Jake Talley in order to open the Devil's Gate in Wyoming. After making his way to Fossil Butte Cemetery, Jake succeeds in opening the gate by threatening Ellen's life, but after Sam kills him, Dean retrieves the Colt from the crypt door. The Yellow-Eyed Demon shows up and takes the Colt from Dean, but after John's spirit distracts the demon by ripping him out of his meatsuit, Dean grabs the Colt back and shoots Azazel in the heart with the last bullet just as he returns to his host, finally killing him. Bobby and Ellen were later able to seal the devil's gate before any more demons or spirits could escape.
Bobby is seen working on the Colt.

3.05 Bedtime Stories
The Crossroads Demon outside of Lloyd's Bar recognizes that the Colt has been modified, stating that it was not "the original Colt." ===15.05 Proverbs 17:3===
Sam has a nightmare where he is possessed by Lucifer, Dean tries to kill the archangel with the Colt, shooting him through the head from behind. However, Lucifer heals the wound and burns Dean to death.

Sam later speculates that the nightmare was one of God's possible endings for them that he is seeing through a link created between Sam and God when Sam shot God with the Equalizer.
<br clear="all" />

15.09 The Trap
God reveals that the nightmares Sam has been seeing were of alternate reality Sams and Deans, meaning that the Colt Sam had seen was also from an alternate reality.

15.12 Galaxy Brain
Part of Chuck's video presentation to the Radio Shed clerk on Earth 2 is alternate Dean's failed attempt to kill alternate Lucifer with the Colt.
Legend of the Colt
Although not obvious to anyone not familiar with the Paterson model, "the Colt" does in fact, have a trigger. While the Colt Paterson Revolvers in general, as well as "the Colt" do not have trigger guards, the trigger for these revolvers are inset flush into base of the frame, and drop down automatically when the hammer is cocked. The trigger can be clearly seen behind Bobby's finger when he is test-firing it in the scene where Ruby first appears to help him modify it to restore its demon killing abilities. The trigger and the hammer can also be seen up close when Sam kills the Alpha Vampire with The Colt in 12.14 The Raid.
==Speculation by FansTrivia==The legend of * [http://collider.com/the Colt has brought up -boys-eric-kripke-interview/ In a lot of speculation between the fans due to some inconsistencies 2019 interview with its history. ===The Five Things===LuciferCollider says , Eric Kripke revealed that there are only five things in all of creation that can't be killed by the Colt and that he is one of them. There's no definite answer whether or not Eve can be killed by the Colt. Death could be more powerful than the archangels since creation in the end he would reap God and he told Dean that he existed at least as long as God, possibly more, but neither one of them can remember exactly how long anymore. The other 3 Horsemen: Famine, Pestilence and War: are immortal, but powerless without their rings unlike their brother Death who is the ultimate reaper. The only way the other three Horsemen were stopped show was by cutting off their rings, but they did not die. Therefore, there's reason to believe the Colt can't kill them. However, there might be a reason reference to separate Death and the Horsemen since they are on different power levels. If this is true, then Eve can be killed by the Colt, since the Horsemen are older and bump her off the list. Since Death is the only Horseman of the Apocalypse who doesnKiller't actually need his ring, it stands to reason s guns that Death is immune to the Colt while the other three Horsemen are not. Another question is that could the Colt can kill Cain? He was anything from the one with the First Blade and the Mark of Cain which evidently renders the bearer immortal. If the user dies, it comes back as a Knight of Hell. The First Blade killed Cain. If Cain cannot be killed with the Colt, then it could be because he was either Adam and Eve's firstborn son or because he was the holder of the Mark of Cain, as he was made into a Knight after the Princes of Hell were made, who are susceptible to the Colt like Azazel. Since the Princes existed before him, it proves that Cain and the other Knights of Hell can be killed by the Colt. The Alpha Vampire told Sam that "there are five creatures on this Earth that gun cannot kill" and tried to pass of that he was one of them, but Sam doesn't believe him and eventually kills him. It confirms that the five things that the Colt cannot kill are five individual creatures rather than five specific species of monsters. Since Lucifer was unaffected by the Colt, it points out that Michael canPreachert be killed by it either and it was previously stated that both Michael and Lucifer appear to be on different power levels than Gabriel and Raphael. It raises the question if Gabriel and Raphael are susceptible to the Colt, but since both archangels were trapped in a ring of holy fire which had to be extinguished by water to release them and Lucifer was trapped in a ring of holy fire that extinguished itself, despite the warding used to trap him and the fact that Michael was molotov cocktailed by Castiel with a flaming bottle filled with holy fire and survived, it shows that Gabriel and Raphael may be somewhat weaker than Michael and Lucifer, presenting the possibility that they could be killed by the Coltcomic book.
