Azazel makes efforts to regain it in order to open the Devil's Gate in Wyoming in order to form a demon army on Earth. While [[Jake Talley]], who has been recruited by Azazel, opens the gate for a short time, Azazel is killed when Dean shoots him with the Colt, using the final bullet. [[Bobby]] had taken apart the Colt in an attempt to discover how it can kill anything supernatural, but was unable to figure out what makes it tick. After he started test firing it in the woods, [[Ruby]] later helps Bobby restore the Colt's supernatural killing abilities and modified it so it will take any ammunition.
