Transformative Works and Cultures

Transformative Works and Cultures (TWC) is an online academic journal published by the fan-run Organisation for Transformative Works (OTW). "Transformative works" is the term used by the organisation, in a public (non-fandom) context, to describe fanworks.

TWC publishes peer-reviewed academic articles on fandom and fanworks, and also has a more relaxed "Symposium" branch, which publishes meta essays on fandom and fanworks. Academics, fans and acafen are all welcome to submit articles for publication.

"Saving People, Hunting Things": Special Issue on Supernatural (March 2010)

A special Supernatural issue of TWC was published in March 2010 and was the journal's first fandom-specifc issue. The issue is available online at Transformative Works and Culture, Vol 4 (2010) and for download here.

Transformative Works and Cultures invites submissions for a special issue on the CW television series Supernatural. We are interested in essays concerning every aspect of the show, but especially in studies of Supernatural fandom and fan culture. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, textual and cultural analyses of the series and of the fandom (including real person fan fiction), studies of the series' transmedia properties such as the Rising Son comics and the official Web site's "Hunter's Blog," and studies of the relationship between the show's producers and actors and the online fandom.
