VFX Non-Con 2013

Following the Supernatural convention that was held in Vancouver in August 2013; the Visual Effects Team along with Jules from SuperWiki arranged a get together for the fans as an opportunity to meet the VFX team and discuss the amazing VFX on the show.

As it was not part of the convention the VFX meet was dubbed the VFX Non-Con and that title has stuck.

The 2013 VFX non-con was held in a wonderful venue in Vancouver called the Storm Crow Tavern The Tavern is a haven for all things nerd so was the perfect setting for the VFX event. The VFX Non-Con consisted of showings of unofficial SPN VFX demo reels, some astonishing before and after VFX shots and a Q&A session with the VFX Coordinator Ryan Curtis.

The event was even live streamed to the fans that couldn't attend in person. After all of that the fans then got a chance to have their pictures taken with, chat to and get autographs from each of the VFX crew in attendance:

VFX Non-Con 2014

After the success of the 2013 VFX Non-Con, another one for 2014 was arranged and hosted by SuperWiki (Jules) on the Monday evening following the Creation Supernatural Convention in Vancouver.

As so many people wanted to attend this time, the con was split into two showings.

In attendance this year were

Theo's Birthday (credit Marika Toth)

The new demo reels, complied by Adam Williams, were shown, plus some before and after compilations. Then there was the wonderful and extremely informative Q&A session with Ryan Curtis and Mark Meloche where the fans learnt about different types of demon smoke, what the VFX crew's role in the show and on set is and about some scenes that were too gory to actually air on TV.

After this the fans got a chance to chat with the VFX crew, get their pictures taken with them or just buy them a drink for all the hard work that they do.

Special guest Theo Devaney who plays Crowley's son Gavin MacLeod in Season 9 attended the event where he discussed/demonstrated how VFX was used in his scenes and treated the fans to a "possession dance." As it was also his birthday, everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to him and he got a special cake.
