This page lists the writer and director for each episode. You will also find a listing of each episode a person has been involved with on their own page.
The Supernatural writing team and post-production is based in LA, while the show, except for the pilot, is filmed in Vancouver.
Following a large roster of writers in Season One, Supernatural has had a core group of around eight writers each season. Writing on a TV show is not a solo effort - story arcs and individual episodes will be developed and broken in collaboration the writers' room. Eric Kripke, Bob Singer and Sera Gamble in particular have a greater input and influence on the scripts than their individual writing credits indicate. In addition, story editors and writers' assistants have input as well at different parts of the scripts development. Some writers' assistants have gained writing credits on the show including Emily McLaughlin, Jenny Klein and Jackson Stewart. Stunt coordinator Lou Bollo also has two story credits.
The showrunners are involved in both the creative and operational aspects of the show. Veteran Bob Singer was brought on by the studios to work with Eric Kripke when the series began and remains in that position in Season 7. Eric Kripke stepped down as showrunner at the end of Season 5 but has continued to have creative input into the show. Sera Gamble, who began as a writer and story editor with Supernatural in Season 1, was elevated to showrunner in Season 6. After she left the show at the end of Season 7, Jeremy Carver was appointed showrunner.
See Writers for more info on where former writers are now, and which ones participated in each season.
For more information on each writer and director, see their individual entries.
